  • Dewalt bit vs. solid granite

    I've got a really tough project. I have to drill 500+ holes in solid granite to pin the footings for a medieval castle (See: KeeneCastle (dot) com) I bought this bit because the tip looks superior to the other bits I have used. It is a solid piece as opposed to 3 pieces like from other manufacturers. Logically, it should last longer. If a drill bit is good, it should take about 15 minutes to drill a 16" hole and last for about 80 holes. But after only 7 holes this bit started taking more than 90 minutes to drill a 16" hole! The deeper it gets the slower it gets. The last 2 inches take a painful amount of time, about 50 minutes. Not sure why this is happening. The tip shows fairly regular wear, nothing out of the ordinary. So I'm baffled by this. Perhaps it has something to do with how ...
