  • Searching for Sugarman( DVD, 2012)

***MINIMAL SPOLERS*** An obscure, 1968-ish musician named Rodriguez cuts two albums, they totally bomb, end of story, right? Wrong! In South Africa( Union of South Africa aka USA), this artist is bigger than Elvis and the Rolling Stones. Someone or a group of people in SA "bootlegged" the records, and sold in the 7 figures of units; these people got filthy rich off of Rodriguez. But as information is available about ANY other recording artist you can ever mention, there was nothing on the enigmatic Rodriguez. Who was this guy? Where is he? If alive 40 years later, where does he live? These questions and much more is the quest of two South Afrikaaners that went to great lengths to uncover this mystery of mysteries. There were rumors abound that Rodriguez shot himself on ...

  • Very good

A really well done and very entertaining documentary film that highlights the amazing and unbelievable story about the musical talent known as Rodriguez; and the beyond exceptional popularity his album Cold Fact had specifically in South Africa. His iconic popularity there was totally unknown to him until a fan was able to contact him by figuring out which city he lived in from a clue in one of his songs lyrics and posting a “search“ page on the Internet. The record company owner beyond screwed this guy; it’s a disgustingly scandalous revelation.

  • Outstanding. Surprised in every way. Probably most under-rated film ever

Outstanding film. Probably the most surprisingly terrific and under-rated movie I've ever seen. Had no interest in seeing it but agreed and have watched it multiple times already.
