About this product

Product Information

The award-winning work is reissued as a Candlewick Picture Book Biography. George Frideric Handel always knew what he liked. And he was never afraid to do what he liked -- whether smuggling a clavichord into the attic, sneaking off at a duke's castle to play the organ, ordering forty-five pounds of snow to chill his wine, or writing operas that no one wanted to hear. Even in his darkest hour, when it seemed everyone and everything were against him, Handel stayed true to himself. And because he did, he has become one of the best-loved composers in the world. In this absorbing biography, M. T. Anderson's narrative and Kevin Hawkes's stunning art illuminate the life and legacy of a musical visionary. Back matter includes a time line, discography, author's note, sources, and an index.

  • Is this author making fun of and running down G.F.Handel ?

I don't like this book nor the attitude and stance that they take when writing about G.F Handel . Its a Newer book on Handel so maybe that explain it .Most New books seem to Down Play and Disparage the History of Western Civilization and its art .And as far as I can tell its one of those kind of book's .I'm very disappointed in it .I thought it would be a good book on G F.Handel and that I'd learn New information on Handel from reading it but instead all this author seem to do is make fun of Handel , run him down and mock him and his music .I should have realized that in this age every New book that you buy on Western History is probably gonna be written by somebody that doesn't like Western History it's Civilization or its Art .
