Must Have Resource for Sarah Coventry Collectors
Excellent reference for the new or long time Sarah Coventry Collector. Well organized by year and period of the company. Good amount of history of the company, well written and avoiding flowery language. Ignore the "current dollar values" for pieces as this information has no relevance in today's selling market. Some of the photos are a bit small but they are clear (unlike in some other references published by Schiffer) so you usually identify a new piece that you have found.Excellent reference for the new or long time Sarah Coventry Collector. Collect or Sell Sarah Coventry? This is the ONLY Book You Need!
Sarah Coventry was a jewelry line sold at home parties, individually to the consumer, much like AVON sells make-up or Tupperware sells---well, Tupperware. Sarah Coventry officially closed in the early 1980's. Jewelry pieces/sets were usually named ("Contessa","Whispering Leaves", for example) to help identify them, mostly for the saleslady or "hostess" of the party. I've been collecting & selling jewelry for 40+ years. Whenever I find a piece of Coventry, I try to identify it, at least by title--but it was hard to find accurate information on the internet. Pieces were mis-named, & often I found the same name for several different sets. I bought this book because I read that the two authors ONLY attributed names & dates if they had the Coventry catalog for that year, OR the original ... In other words, every single item in their book has been authenticated. Coventry produced so much jewelry it would be impossible to identify every single piece, but this book comes close. Items are grouped by sets, along with catalog number, NAME & an estimated current value. There's also a great index in the back--so if you already know the name of the piece/set, you can quickly locate it & find the year it was first made. If this book has a drawback, it's the pictures. They're very small & sometimes not completely accurate as far as color. Some are even blurry. But this is THE BEST, most detailed & certainly the most accurate book on Coventry jewelry I've ever found. If you're a collector or a dealer, I'd consider this book a must-have.
