Four episodes from the 1950's by the master of mystery and suspense-Alfred Hitchcock. The first: "Lamb to the Slaughter" stars Barbara Bel Geddes, who of course was a great actress even before "Dallas." A man comes home from work and tells his pregnant wife that he wants a divorce. She decides that if she cooks him a nice home cooked meal he would feel better and maybe change his mind. She heads for the kitchen but then things take a turn for the worse. For him, that is. Amazing ending. "Back for Christmas" An elderly couple prepare for a vacation to the U.S. The wife is the dominating type, probably based on years of practice. He pretends to be digging a wine cellar in the basement, but his real intentions become apparent. He kills her and buries her in the basement. The wife, always the ... The wife, always the one to anticipate anything, actually has the last laugh, so to speak. "The Case of Mr. Pelham". Tom Ewell stars as a man who is starting to think that he is loosing his mind. People are telling him they have seen him in places that he doesn't remember going to. It is apparent to him that someone who looks exactly like him and can act like him is becoming totally involved in his life. "Banquo's Chair" This stars John Williams, Kenneth Haigh, and Reginald Gardiner. The setting is in London in 1903. A gentleman has a retired police inspector to a dinner party. Also invited is a police detective, a young gentleman who recently acquired a fortune from his aunt, and a ghost. It seems that the retired inspector suspects that the young gentleman might have had something to do with the aunt's demise. And the ghost, well that is what the story is all about. These four episodes were filmed in the mid to late 1950's. The quality of the film is perfect; the plots, fine acting and direction are all indicative of the brilliance of Hitchcock. His monologs at the begining and at the end of each episode are a treat in themselves. If you enjoy any of his movies from the past, you will certainly enjoy these features as well.

Among the best of "Hitchcock"
I've wanted this DVD for some time -- at least 3 of the episodes are recognized as being among the best of "Alfred Hitchcock Presents" -- and I'm really glad I found it here at a great price.
