About this product

Product Information

Created by the development team behind such critically acclaimed role-playing games as Baldur's Gate, Mass Effect, and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Dragon Age: Origins is an original fantasy RPG featuring real-time combat and content spanning an estimated 80 hours in length. Your custom-created hero is one of the few remaining members of the elite Grey Wardens, an ancient order that has sworn to protect the land and its citizens. The news is dire: a corrupted dragon is leading a powerful army of darkspawn to conquer the surrounding territories. In your quest to slay the dragon and cleanse the tainted lands, you'll battle numerous creatures, make critical decisions, and explore dozens of locales.

Shape your hero's personality by initially choosing one of six origin stories, which influences your character's background and starting area. Recruit others to fight alongside you, engage in branching conversations, and deal with such issues as murder, jealousy, love, politics, and even genocide. While the third-person combat occurs in real time, you can pause the action at any point to issue commands and plan your strategy. You can also switch between all four party members to take advantage of special skills and talents, as the computer carries out actions for heroes not directly under your control. A minimum of two years worth of downloadable content is planned to expand Dragon Age's universe with new quests, campaigns, and characters.

    A Bioware masterpiece

The best part of this game is the character development. It complex, funny, moving, and compelling. The writting is spectacular. This is an old game so there are some things that handle like old games but it's not clunky or anything. It's still pretty intuitive and emersive. The Dragon Age trilogy, the Mass Effect series, and the Witcher series all have the classic Bioware sense of decision permanence. Each decision has weight without having to choose a permadeath option and give it serious replay value with each play through as a very different experience. Give this game a chance and you'll get sucked right into the Bioware experience

  • The start of an impressive franchise!

Incredibly deep and expansive, Dragon Age: Origins is one of those titles that can easily swallow up dozens of hours of play and keep you coming back for more. The fact that BioWare chose to include downloadable content, including a new character and side quest, on launch day proves that they have an extensive plan for supporting the game. Couple that with the fact that each character can be developed in radically different ways, and you have an adventure that earns its own place among BioWare's expansive RPG collection. While the visuals are a bit underwhelming and the difficulty is a bit easier on the consoles, this is still a great title. This is the kind of adventure that fantasy RPG fans have been hoping that BioWare would deliver – a game with a ton of re-playability and an ...

  • Finally a Decent RPG on Console

Here is a review I wrote for the PS3 version: Dragon Age is probably the best RPG made for a console system. I may be a bit spoiled since most of my RPG time has been on the PC spending hours playing games such as Diablo/D1/LOD and similar, but I have not seen one decent Role Playing Game for the console - until Dragon Age. The Awakening expansion adds countless hours to game play and even at full retail, playing on the easiest mode (casual), you will still get your money's worth with game time. An outstanding story line, great character customization, and the ability to really "choose your own adventure", making many moral decisions that effect game play instead of the typical, do this - do that don't forget this - style of game play. The rating of Good (4 stars) is simply because I ...

  • Dragon Age

Not Bioware's best effort, but Dragon Age: Origins is about 60 hours of solid gameplay that will keep RPG fans happy. The basic story is standard fantasy genre fare, complete with Dwarves underground, elves with bows and arrows, treacherous humans, dragons, mages, a kingdom in need of a hero, and evil on the precipice of victory. Gameplay is impressive and the item management menus are well done. Some of the quests will really challenge your concepts of right and wrong and the concepts behind the kingdoms are well written and compelling especially the Dwarven kingdom of Orzummar. There are minor bugs in the code and once in a while the dialogue from NPC's will get very tedious, but overall the game is impressive. So why is Dragon Age not a 5 star game? Compared to Knights of the Old ...

  • A Better Battle - Dragon Age

I have not completed a quest yet. That being said, so far a very good single player game. It has a more mature theme than most D&D genre *(there are some mature relationship scenes - I would advise you stick to the rating recommendation). This game takes some thought and good strategy to win. There are several very good story lines. So you can replay a number of times without getting bored. I am somewhat disappointed in the fact that there is no real estate to explore -- like Oblivian. Within the limits of the area exploration is necessary and satisfying. However, the quest is somewhat linear in places. In some of the areas it is -- forge ahead, tackle the mobs in order, and try to keep healthy enough to fight through. The side quests are good but sometimes distracting of the ...
