About this product

Product Information

Performance artist Miranda July's debut feature film, ME AND YOU AND EVERYONE WE KNOW, is a charming, quirky romantic comedy that is entertaining from start to finish. Writer-director July stars as Christine, an offbeat performance artist who becomes instantly smitten with Richard (John Hawkes), a brooding department-store shoe salesman who is having trouble dealing with his divorce and his separation from his two kids--the shy, private Peter (Miles Thompson) and the very funny Robby (Brandon Ratcliff). Christine is trying to get her latest work accepted at a major museum, but first she has to get through mean-spirited Nancy (Tracy Wright), who is not necessarily very interested in her submission. Meanwhile, Natasha Slayton and Najarra Townsend are a riot as a pair of teenagers who think they're ready for sex as they tease neighborhood pervert Andrew (Brad Henke) and consider experimenting with Peter. Amid all the tender, comedic, well-acted, and well-written scenes, Ratcliff nearly steals the film as Robby gets involved in a dirty, hysterical online chat with a mystery person. July's marvelous, surprising movie won the Special Jury Prize for Originality of Vision at the 2005 Sundance Film Festival in addition to well-deserved prizes at the Philadelphia and San Francisco International Film Festivals.

  • "Me and You..." Is Best Movie of 2005

This debut feature by writer/director/star Miranda July is easily the best movie of 2005. It is funny, sweet and sometimes strange, but always thoroughly and endearingly human. "Me and You and Everyone We Know" is a sort of a gentler, warmer "Ghost World," full of obvious affection for its unglamorous but wonderful characters. July plays a meek but wholesomely hopeful would-be multimedia artist whose day job is giving cab rides to the elderly. Her neighbors and associates include a shoe salesman adjusting to the breakup of his marriage; a matter-of-fact little girl who is living 20 years in her own future; an old codger who has found the love of his life 50 years too late; a teenager and his kid brother who manage to make cybersex both hilarious and touching; a snobbish museum curator who ...

  • Me and You and Everyone We Know

I bought this DVD because John Hawks (Sol Star on HBO's Deadwood) starred in it. Aside from his performance, I really didn't like it. The scenes where his younger son is shown responding to an unknown person on the internet is very disturbing. So much could have happened to that little boy. Frankly, he was left alone way too much. If his dad freaked out when he walked home from school alone, where was his dad when the boy went to the park to meet the person he had been communicating with on the internet? It was not realistic, in my thinking, to have the boy and the woman he met, just sit there, not say anything, and then kiss. I was creeped out by this.

  • Hilarious

Was a great movie! My fiancé remembered the "back and forth, forever" scene and couldn't remember where she saw it. I'm glad that we were able to see the entire movie together. It was very entertaining!

  • good product.

I don't like the content very much, but my friend does. it is a little too much of thinking for me. I do not like the connections between people. I like movies that are more of relaxation and little thinking ^^

  • Struggling To Discover Love

Quirky Miranda July is brilliant in her writing of this tender story, where she portrays a lonely cab driver, drawn to equally lonely shoe salesman (with two sons). While they struggle to discover love, the teens in this movie struggle in their attempts to discover sex. This movie captivates you the viewer to recall your own struggles at learning to understand the connections of sex and love. Now, lets just keep this between me and you and everyone we know...
