One Voice, A Massive Cast Of Characters
What isn't to like about The Lord Of The Rings? The story is excellent, with wonderful characters and settings, and plenty of increasing drama as you proceed through the story. Having it on audiobook makes it even better for me, as I can listen to it at work or while traveling. This set is well recorded and narrated, with numerous poems related, songs sung, fantasy languages translated, and characters brought to life purely by the power of a human voice. Even with one narrator on the job, you can hear the differences between characters of different origins and backgrounds with a single sentence. The only, and therefore best, unabridged LotR!
Rob Ingles brings great life to Tolkien's masterpiece. His character voices are compelling, and make a story that can be hard to trudge through for some readers very easy to listen to in the car or doing chores at home. I recommend The Hobbit, also read by Rob Ingles, and The Silmarillion if you like The Lord of the Rings.

Like radio shows or listening to a good storyteller, this audiobook lets you use your imagination. Rob Inglis reads the story more like he is telling it than reading it. He uses voice characterizations for different characters in the story maling it more interesting, but not hokey or childish. It reminds me of listening to readings done in libraries, schools or at pow wows. Just great tales which keep your interest. There are several reasons to listen to this trilogy: Tolkien's education in medieval and Old English tales wgich are the basis of all great stories. SOmething brought out in these tales. The battle of good and evil and the arreibytes we gold dear as udeals for humankind. The Christian symbology. As is found in other great works vt gis contemoparies like C.S. Lewis and his ...
