About this product

Product Information

Director Gregory Hoblit's debut feature was the tricky courtroom drama PRIMAL FEAR. With his fourth feature, HART'S WAR, Hoblit is back with another. This time the court is inside a WWII prisoner-of-war camp. The defendant is Lieutenant Lincoln Scott (Terrence Howard), a black officer accused of killing a racist sergeant (Cole Hauser). Scott's lawyer is Lieutenant Tommy Hart (Colin Farrell), a second-year law student at Yale. A U.S. senator's son, Hart was having a relatively easy war until he was captured, interrogated, and sent to Stalag VI. The camp commandant is the urbane, charming, and ruthless SS Major Visser (compellingly played by Rumanian actor Marcel Iures). The ranking American officer at the camp is Colonel William McNamara (Bruce Willis), and Hart is soon in conflict with him. When Scott is accused of murder, McNamara insists that the prisoners should hold a court martial, and he appoints Hart counsel for the defense. At the court martial, Hart finds his client is being railroaded, although he gets help from unexpected quarters. Intricately plotted by scriptwriters Billy Ray and Terry George, and filmed by Hoblit with his accustomed attention to detail, HART'S WAR is a devious and absorbing courtroom/POW drama.

Tension buildin movie of a who dun-it in a WWII POW camp.

A good who dun-it in a POW camp. Holds your attention thru out the movie with some twist and turns. The actors did a good job bringing the characters to life. A tension building movie worth seeing.

  • Disturbing film.

First of all let's get one thing straight, although the setting of Hart's War is during World War II, this is not an action movie along the lines of Black Hawk Down or Saving Private Ryan, instead, it is more of a who-done-it type of drama film. With that out of the way, Hart's War is about the experiences of Lt. Thomas Hart during his stay at a German POW camp (the Stalag 6A) in 1944, nearing the end of the war. Inside the compound he meets Col. William McNamara, the highest ranking officer in the place, even in prison, all US soldiers and officers still answer to McNamara, and the chain of command is expected to be followed. Things start to get out of hand after two black fighter pilots enter the camp, and when one of them is accused of murder, Hart is assigned to defend him in the court ...

  • Hart's War - Blu-ray

This movie has been greatly misunderstood. What does it mean to be a soldier? A warrior? A hero? World War II was America's most challenging endeavor and the first test of its emerging warrior class. In war, there are two combatants. On either side, there are two types of soldiers; Draftees and Career soldiers. The issues of equality, race etc. has absolutely nothing to do with this film. This movie is about differences between Career Soldiers and the draftees. To the draftees, war is merely a game. To the career soldiers, Col's William A. McNamara and Werner Visser, soldiering is not a game. It is a deadly serious profession, even in the POW camp. This movie should touch the Hart of anyone who has been in harm's way or has family that has been in military service. Blu Ray takes the ...

  • HART'S WAR---MOST EXCELLENT!!!

Okay---I cried like a baby---I admit it! I hope if I had been put in the situation that these men were in, that I would have been as noble and courageous as they were. God bless them;and God also please bless our men and women who are fighting in all of our wars today. Please buy this movie, and show it to your older family members, also. Nancy Irizarry-Guiot.

  • Excellent Movie! Great Picture and Sound!

The thing that matters most to me for any blu ray movie is picture and sound. I hate blu ray movies that have a lot of grain in them, unless its to bring out the art of a war movie. This movie was excellent. te picture is very clear with only a few grainy scenes. The surround sound is amazing and constantally uses all 5 speakers!!! Truly a great blu ray movie to own.
