In 1972, the Queen of Soul revisited her gospel roots with 2 concerts recorded live at L.A.'s New Temple Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. James Cleveland directing the Southern California Community Choir. The final LP (which hit Top 10 Pop and won a Grammy for Best Gospel Album) was co-produced by Aretha, Arif Marden and Jerry Wexler. This CD marks the 1st release of all 28 songs Aretha performed at both shows and features complete remastering and lots of bonus material.

After going to the movies to see "Respect" (Story of: Aretha Franklin) i was moved to purchase this live gospel cd of the "Queen of Soul"....After one listen to this cd you will be reminded of her baptist gospel roots 1st....She was "Queen of the Gospel" way before she became Queen of Soul. Great cd....I urge others to purchase it. You won't be disappointed.

It was very poorly narrated, sound was off and on, low then high, selections of music was so varied I couldn't make an entertainment of it. It was just a waste of my money. I nearly always appreciate good gospel music, but Aretha Franklin's "Amazing Grace" isn't one of them. In fact, I'm not as impressed as most folks seem to be about her at all. She isn't the quality of Shirley Ceasar, Mahalia Jackson, or even Clara Ward. It was very poorly narrated, sound was off and on, low then high, selections of music was so varied I couldn't make an entertainment of it. It was just a waste of my money. I nearly always appreciate good gospel music, but Aretha Franklin's "Amazing Grace" isn't one of them. In fact, I'm not as impressed as most folks seem to be about her at all. I learned about this cd from Dan Klefstad who has a radio program on NPR radio, WNIJ Dekalb Illinois. Dan plays the blues every Saturday from noon to four. Once a year he plays four hours of gospel. He played a cut from this cd and I just had to have it. The whole cd is great. It's live with some comentary. The second cd has a few of the same songs as the first but you barely notice. They were recorded on two different days at the same location with the same backup choir. It's what you would expect from Aretha Franklin.
