Hilary Swank and Richard Gere star in director Mira Nair's biopic tracing the life of famed aviator Amelia Earhart -- who made history in 1932 by becoming the first woman ever to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. The trip made the aviatrix a national celebrity -- with help from her publicist George Putnam (Gere), whom she fell in love with and eventually married. Their union was tested, however, as Earhart developed feelings for contemporary Gene Vidal (Ewan McGregor ), and the couple's marriage faced the ultimate tragedy years later, as Earhart's fierce independent spirit spurred her to attempt to fly around the world -- a venture that infamously shrouded her in mystery, as the pilot simply vanished after crashing into the Pacific Ocean.

True to live drama about Amelia Earhart
Hilary Swank (Boys Don't Cry & Million Dollar Baby) stars with Richard Gere (An Officer and a Gentleman & Pretty Woman) in this Documentary type drama about the live and loves of Amelia Earhart. Any one who knows history is familiar with the tragic story of Amelia. One of our Nations finest Aviators who's sudden disappearance in 1937 sparked a world wide search and subsequent mourning after it became clear that she would never be found. This has not stopped speculation that Amelia somehow did not die during the flight and landed somewhere and went on to live to an old age. (There was even one women who claimed to be her, but that turned out not to be true). The movie was not well accepted by critics when it was released in 2009 however it does portray a very good likeness of the life of ... Hilary Swank (Boys Don't Cry & Million Dollar Baby) stars with Richard Gere (An Officer and a Gentleman & Pretty Woman) in this Documentary type drama about the live and loves of Amelia Earhart. The acting is pretty good and the plot, although sometimes boring, does catch on later in the film. Ameila was Directed by Directed by Mira Nair (Who also directed Mississippi Masala). Ameila also stars: Christopher Eccleston [Doctor Who] and Ewan McGregor [Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars). I believe this movie is worth the money, but judge for yourself.

This semi-romantic bio of the famed aviatrix is superb, with some vivid scenes from the round-the-world flight. The 2-disc set is a little confusing-at-first..? The digital original copy did not play on my blu-ray player...the other disc "movie" id play as new; sharp, vivid, excellent background music, and tender treatment of the tragic end..? Some of the dialogue is equally superb to intellectual analysts..? Swank has acted "well-done", a great movie for adventure, and history. The story touches on the real life of Amelia and the way she was used to exploit merchandise. While she was one of the first women to fly, she was used by the media. The love story between her publicist, who eventually became her husband, is the best part of the movie.
