  • My thoughts on the the 12 Kingdoms...

I actually viewed a clip of the first episode online, which is why I bought it. I think the first few episodes where exciting, but then it slowed down a bit. That wasn't a bad thing, because then the story became more involved and you could really see the debt of all the characters and the plot. The story was very confusing at times, but an attempt to clarify everthing was present throughout many of the latter episodes. There was an "interlude" episode towards the end of the 5th final disc which gave an excellent re-cap and explanation of the entire series. That's pretty much when I finally had a firm grasp of the everything happening. Nonetheless, I think if you a like well-developed plot and characters, you'll like it. I can't wait to get the final episodes!

  • An Epic Story that will Empower Girls

The Twelve Kingdoms begins as on a low note. You expect this story to be like all the others. But the one person who you might have hated for so many episodes, starts to show different sides to them. You go from hate, to understanding, to loathing all the way to rooting for them. The art might be a bit old, but the details and the fight scenes draw you in. I am a very big movie buff, pretty picky about how the art is made or how balanced the show is. I didn't seem to notice any problems throughout this show, and the story line drew me in to where I probably wouldn't have realized anything. Now if you aren't the time who doesn't like an open ending, then you might get disappointed. Though I believe that 3/4 of this show is worth watching multiple times, and even adding to your ...

  • Underrated Anime Masterpiece

Beautifully drawn anime. Heavily dependent on plot and storyline. It is based on the light novels of Fuyumi Ono, Very much in the old school style of animation from the early 90's, however the characters are richly depicted and individually distinct. It takes a while to get into the series, as the main character spends a lot of time being whiney and scared until she figures out who she is and commits to her new life, new body, new role, new everything. Overall a fine and compelling series with enough epic battle scenes, intrigue and mystery to justify buying the series and re-watching it for years to come.

  • An Excellent, Must-Have Anime!

A friend introduced me to 12 Kingdoms and I was hooked after the first episode. It has a complex, but not confusing, storyline, rich design, lots of danger and political intrigue, and wonderfully memorable characters. I didn't like Youko much at first becuse she seemed to be crying half of the time, but she grew on me and became just as beloved as Keiki, Enki, Rakashun, the King of En, and many others. The second season of 12 Kingdoms is even better than the first, especially since Youko is now firmly established. I only wish that someone would continue the anime to finish out the storyline in the novels! If you are an anime-fan, you will not be disappointed by 12 Kingdoms.

  • Twelve Kingdoms

The story starts somewhat slow. But it gets better after disc 2. It has a complex and interesting plot with good character development. The only problem with this series is that some of the stories didn't have any conclusion. Overall very good.
