    Excellent quality, accuracy. Not cheap but worth the money.

    Truly multi-functional. Key features: backlight, 1,000V, AC/DC, heavy-duty construction. I have not had the chance to try all functions yet, the basic ones of measuring volts, amperes, and ohms are fine.

    Disappointing

    To me, Fluke has always represented the reference standard by which all other are judged. But Fluke meters have also been more expensive than I could justify, so I’ve always made do with “lesser” brands. Some of those so-called lesser brands have served me for decades, but when I finally needed to replace one of them, I thought I would finally get myself a Fluke. A 179 kit with probes and case was almost $400 new, so I bought a used one. I figured that the highly-vaunted Fluke brand, just a few years old, would have to be better than the decades-old “lesser” brand meter that it was to replace. When I got my long-awaited meter, I was immediately disappointed at just how gross and dirty the once-yellow case had become, but I wanted to verify that it was working, so I did some simple ...

    Top of the Fluke 170 (wasp-waisted) series with high accuracy and features. Download the manual to learn all the features. Has all the reliability and safety that Fluke is known for. The 440 mA fuse on 400 mA range is easily blown, so buy spares. Use rubbing alcohol to remove black grease stains from the non-removable rubber boot.

    Fluke 179 Multimeter--Excellent Choice!

    The Fluke 179 is a high quality test meter widely used by professionals. It is also great for DIYers such as myself looking for an excellent product. In the short time I have had mine, I have used it for both automotive and household testing purposes. It is not the cheapest alternative available, but it is an accurate US made alternative that purportedly is also very rugged.

    Great Multimeter

    I worked in new product development for over 20 years. Fluke multimeters were always considered the gold standard. I Fluke 179 is a fully professional portable meter. It appears to be very rugged, and well built like the Fluke multimeters that I remember. I also appreciate the built-in safety features.
