Not the best episodes
This show is good, from the episodes I watched as a child, on VHS tapes. The episodes selected for this DVD were not as funny in comparison to the episodes I saw on VHS. It was a bit disappointing. Better episode selection would've made this a better value. It would be a good collection for the cartoon historian, with all the extras and non-cartoon data. I purchased it for the cartoons, which I felt were inferior to other episodes that could've been selected.This show is good, from the episodes I watched as a child, on VHS tapes. An exceptional DVD!
This is one of those dvds that outshine all others for overall quality and value. Not only is it a great collection of 60s vintage Beany and Cecil cartoons, you get hours and HOURS of extras. Among the extras, you get several episodes of the classic tv puppet show Time for Beany, the show that inspired the cartoons 15 years later. And they include a commentary from the great Stan Freberg. As sharp as ever, he recounts the early days of tv for a good 45 minutes. And by early days, I mean the 1940s! Stan and Don Messick joined Bob Clampett in creating this tv show in 1947 or 48. And he worked in the epicenter of American TV. There's probably no one living person more knowledgeable about this time in TV history. This commentary is worth the price of the dvd on its own. I'm sure I'm missing extras. This dvd had more extras than I've seen since, and they're all great stuff. Time for Beany inspired a lot of tv shows that followed, and arguments over which show came first still rage among fans. This dvd is a fitting tribute to an important tv tradition.

own a treasure-bring bob clampett home!
