About this product

Product Information

Adapted from Terry Pratchett's celebrated Discworld series, THE COLOR OF MAGIC offers a wonderful, if decidedly low-budget, rendition of the fantasy land that was originally broadcast on British television. As the story unfolds, wayward wizard Rincewind (David Jason) sets off with traveler Twoflower (Sean Astin)--not to mention his magical luggage--on a grand tour of the kingdom. Together, they cross paths with dragons, druids, and even Death himself (voiced by horror legend Christopher Lee). But their most important journey lies ahead of them, as Rincewind is called to save Discworld from the dastardly sorcerer Trymon (Tim Curry).

    A fun filled family experiance.

The movie The Color of Magic is based on Terry Pratchett's first to Discworld books; The Color of Magic and The Light Fantastic. The movie and books take place on a fantasy world that is flat and sits on the backs of four giant elephants who in-turn stand on the shell of an even more giant turtle. The movie follows the adventures of the Disc's first tourist and his hapless wizard/tour guide companion through their travels around the Disc. This is actually a two part movie and runs a little over 3 hours with a part 1 and 2 menu choice. I really enjoyed this film with the slight aside that for those that have read the books it is just a portion of the over-all read. I would recommend this for all viewers, with some minor parental caution.

Color of Magic needs sound magic

Good visuals. Pretty fair book(s) adaptation. The failures are in what you hear. Music is hit or miss for scenes. Spoken words are often poorly mic'd adding to problem of zome heavy English accents. Director also used echo effects in scenes making it unitelligeable with NO closed captioning good luck is needed.

  • Every Pratchett fan should watch this

To be honest, I wasn't expecting much but as a Pratchett fan, I wanted to see this. I am now very impressed by the quality of the production, the cast, the effects, costumes, sets... Obviously it's based on a great story, but the video is really enjoyable, too.

  • Film Adaptation

This is a well-done adaptation of two of Terry Pratchett's Discworld novels, "The Color of Magic" and "The Light Fantastic". The movie follows the author's plotting exactly and is very entertaining. If you are new to Terry Pratchett, read just one novel and become a fan. If you're already a fan, you'll love the movie, but lament that Pratchett's distinctive prose is untranslatable to the screen. Well done, nonetheless.

  • Well worth watching!!

Great insight into the life of raccoons living in cities around the world. Adorable shots of baby raccoons in their nest. Excellent addition to my collection.
