About this product

Product Information

Made for $30,000 by two young filmmakers from Florida, THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT wowed festival audiences for several months before finding distribution at the 1999 Sundance Festival. It is an ingenious creation which makes effective use of its lack of budget and cast of unknowns. The film is composed entirely of reportedly "found" footage shot by three missing college students who made a journey to the woods of Western Maryland in 1994 with the purpose of making a documentary about a "witch" of local legend who is linked to murders and mysterious occurrences spanning 200 years. It begins with footage of the crew leaving their homes and testing their equipment, but before we know it, they are lost deep in the endless woods, with the voices of screaming children piercing the blackness from off in the distance. Things get worse from there. The experience is disorienting and frightening as well as the most rewarding horror film experience to come along in many years, as it wisely chooses to prey on our vulnerable imaginations rather than bombard us with graphic images.

  • Scared my socks off!

If you're like me, a horror flick is more effective if much of the horror is left up to the imagination, eschewing all the hokey gore and CGI imagery of most newer films of the genre. Blair Witch delivers this kind of terror by the bucketful. Though produced with pocket change, this film seemingly utilizes its low budget to its own advantage. The story of three college kids setting out to do a documentary about a local urban legend near Burkittsville, Maryland starts out calmly enough-but as the three go into the woods for the weekend with 2 cameras, one a grainy black-and-white, things quickly get out of hand. We watch through the "eyes" of their cameras as something malevolent is leading them in circles, and starts terrorizing them at night with frightening noises and ...

  • VHS is still Good !

Great movie to own and watch repeatedly, though it's 20 years old. It has captions, which the DVD version has, which is great! The only negative thing I can say about this video is that there are previews for the first 14 minutes before the feature begins.

  • blair witch project vhs

I am so happy that i bought the VHS version of this movie...i already had the speacial edtion dvd and had heard in one of the special features that the VHS included different special features that were not included in the dvd, so i decided to get the tape. Iam very happy with it. Couldnt go wrong with a homeade style horror movie.

  • blair witch VHS

Much better in VHS rather then DVD. Always buy tape whenever possible. Ending was weird. Not sure if dude in corner was Josh, if he was urinating or just looking at wall while friend was being killed. Hmmm. BOYSTOWNDJ@YAHOO.COM

  • Great Hype, quick ending. :(

The Blair Witch Project was one of the first "shaky" camera movies that bust out onto the scene. It was made by two young filmmakers with barely any money. The movie was hyped as a documentary of three young filmmakers heading out to research old murders in a forest. As the movie goes on they realize that they have stumbled into the real thing. The horror factor is watching the three of them unravel and then the movie suddenly ends with psychological "What"? It let's you form your own opinion of what actually happens. 4/5 Latsyrhc Tamarack Collectibles
