James Bond themes tend to be just as memorable as their movie counterparts and, to a certain extent, just as time sensitive. While many fans can remember the Monty Norman Orchestra's steamy Dr. No theme or Shirley Bassey's "Goldfinger," how many of US remember Rita Coolidge's dated "All Time High" from Octopussy or A-Ha's theme from the Living Daylights? Yes, just as we all have our favorite Bonds, we all have our favorite eras of Bond movie music. But surprisingly, whether they're New Wave, soul, or just Euro- pop inspired, most are still worth hearing. There are some real gems on this compilation: On Her Majesty's Secret Service's "We Have All the Time in the World" by Louis Armstrong, the Thunderball theme sung by Tom Jones, and the spunky theme to the Man with the Golden Gun by Lulu. Just overlook those sporadic lean years and you have a pretty stiff soundtrack cocktail here. Also features a DVD that includes music videos as well as live performances by Duran Duran, Tina Turner, Tom Jones, Carly Simon and more!

Very nice collection, mainly for a Bond fan
To enjoy this album, one has to have an extremely varied taste in music or, more likely, be a James Bond fan from way back. There is everything from the lounge lizard (Matt Monro, Rita Coolidge) to the lay back (Carly Simon, Sheryl Crow), from soul (Louis Armstrong, Gladys Knight) to belter (Tom Jones, Shirley Bassey, Tina Turner) to heavy metal (Duran Duran). Most of the songs have gotten radio air time but only when the companion movie was in theatres. Probably because while the songs are melodic, the lyrics tend to be silly (I'm looking for you "like the Moonraker boat" or "Time to give it a try, live or let die") or so specific to the movie title as to make no sense without it("Goldfinger", "Thunderball", "A View to a Kill"). ... My favorites are the "James Bond Theme"(instrumental), "From Russia with Love", "You Only Live Twice", "Moonraker", "All Time High" (I guess they couldn't come up with a song about an Octopussy) "The World is Not Enough", and k. d. lang's "Surrender". Again, this album is mostly for the Bond fan, but by no means a bad collection.

Each theme is a remembrance of each great movie! Did not really care for "bonus" of the techno version of the main 007 theme.
