      Romantic Competition On The Frontier

      Funny and poignant interplay between the 3 main adult characters and a boy on the early American frontier. In turns touching and humorous, within an interesting historical background, the story is portrayed by excellent actors, and well worth the watch.

      Robert Mitchum and William Holden--what more do you need?

      While "Rachel and the Stranger" is a fairly predictable movie, it brings William Holden and Robert Mitchum together to vie for the same woman--the beautiful and talented Loretta Young, the noble woman who must face adversity with grace and guts. Without the incredible talents of these three actors, the movie probably wouldn't be anywhere near as delicious. The chemistry among the three comes through without overtly being thrown in the viewer's face, and makes for an enjoyable film to watch for lighthearted comedy/drama/romance. The fact that it is a period piece lets us see a little of how life was lived way back at the early part of history out west.

      fun movie with clean characters

      I love this movie. No sex, blood, gangs, evil, etc. as shown in todays movies. It is entertaining and fun to watch. The characters are charming and believable and down to earth. They don't make movies like this anymore - what a shame.
