Product Information
The Perfect Murderintroduced Inspector Ghote- Bombay CID's most dogged, dutiful officer, and one of the greatest, most engaging creations in all detective fiction. Introducing Bombay CID's most dogged, dutiful officer, and one of the greatest, most engaging creations in all detective fiction, H.R.F. Keating's The Perfect Murder- The First Inspector Ghote Mystery includes a preface by Alexander McCall Smith, author of The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency, in Penguin Modern Classics. One crime that couldn't have happened, one that probably hasn't. Nothing's ever easy for Inspector Ghote. In the house of Lala Varde, a vast man of even vaster influence, an attack has taken place. Varde's secretary, Mr Perfect, has been struck on his invaluable business head. And try as Inspector Ghote might to remain conscientious and methodical, his investigation is beset on all sides by cunning, disdain and corruption. And then there's another urgent case to be dealt with- the impossible theft of a single rupee . . . H. R. F. Keating (1926-2011) was born at St Leonards-on-Sea, Sussex. He went to Merchant Taylors, leaving early to work in the engineering department of the BBC. After a period of service in the army, which he describes as 'totally undistinguished', he went to Trinity College, Dublin, where he became a scholar in modern languages. He was also the crime books reviewer for The Times for fifteen years. His first novel about Inspector Ghote, The Perfect Murder, won the Gold Dagger of the Crime Writers Association and an Edgar Allen Poe Special Award. His other works in Penguin Modern Classics include Inspector Ghote Breaks an Egg, Inspector Ghote Trusts the Heart, and Under a Monsoon Cloud- An Inspector Ghote Mystery. If you enjoyed The Perfect Murder, you might like Keating's Inspector Ghote Breaks an Egg, also available in Penguin Modern Classics. - 1***1- Feedback left by buyer.Past 6 monthsVerified purchaseAs always, a pleasure buying books from Goldstonebooksuk. Excellent seller, especially with the great discounts!! The books are all in an excellent condition and very well packed. Super-quick delivery too. Couldn't ask for more. Many thanks!
- a***a (145)- Feedback left by buyer.Past monthVerified purchaseQueried the seller about dust jacket and received helpful (and truthful) reply which made me confident to buy the book. Free postage, plus discount for buying a second book, meant it was very good value and I am pleased with both books. Condition better than described and promptly delivered. Just one point - the thin plastic postage packaging risks damage - on this occasion all ok. Even a sheet of newspaper or similar would give some protection, and not add much weight.
- 1***1- Feedback left by buyer.Past 6 monthsVerified purchaseI've bought hundreds of books from goldstonebooksuk in just the last few weeks alone, because of the amazing discounts on the books for multiple-book purchases (the more books you buy, the higher the discount, all the way up to 50%!). The books have always lived up to the description, or better than described. All well-packed, with super-quick delivery. Exceptional support whenever I've contacted them. Awesome seller.
- y***y (512)- Feedback left by buyer.Past 6 monthsVerified purchaseBook was delivered - it took a bit longer than what was shown on the listing, but it was okay for international delivery (3 weeks). Condition of book was very good but there was a large fold in the cover. Note that the book was sent in a plastic bag so the corners got a bit rounded on its travels. That said, the rest of the book was in good condition. Overall cost of book and delivery was very good. Sellers communication also on point.
