About this product

    Product Information

Nintendo's acclaimed action role-playing series receives a face-lift with the release of The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker for GameCube. Moving away from the traditional 3D polygon models found in the two previous Nintendo 64 titles, creator Shigeru Miyamoto and the design team decided on using a cel-shaded look for a more whimsical effect. Enemies and principal characters emote, stomp, and attack with more fluid animation than in previous efforts, although the basic control and interface remain the same.

Taking place long after the events in Ocarina of Time, the game finds a young Link with expressive, almond-shaped eyes who is suddenly pressed into action when a giant bird swoops down and abducts his sister. Thus begins a epic quest taking place on a series of different islands, each of which can be reached by a sailboat players guide amidst swirling winds. Once on land, Link must fight his way past new and familiar monsters across a variety of outdoor vistas and underground dungeons to find his sister.

To fight his enemies, Link can swing a sword in multiple directions, block with a shield, and perform a variety of acrobatic maneuvers to close in for the attack or to escape harm's way. Link can also acquire and use bombs to open up new areas, as well as acquire fallen items from defeated enemies. New items include a telescope, which can be used to spot important items from afar, and a baton that helps redirect the wind to propel the sailboat to its intended destination (similar to how Link's ocarina manipulated time in his first N64 adventure).

The lock-on targeting system implemented in the N64 games is featured in the GameCube version as well. When players are confronted with multiple targets, they can isolate their attacks on a specific creature or divvy up damage by quickly switching between enemies while swinging the sword or firing the hookshot. New forms of attacks tie-in to the comic theme associated with the graphic engine, such as targeting an exposed foot or somersaulting between a creature's legs before swiping it from behind. Wind Waker also supports connectivity with the Game Boy Advance for two-player cooperative adventuring as well as a number of additional features.

A game a tier above the others at the time

This game really is an instant classic, although not as aged as the 64 titles and beyond, this game really stood out as a treasure for its time. Just as other Zelda titles have done in the past. From the mechanics to the different(ish) twist on the storyline, this title was a masterpiece, especially for being a main Zelda title featuring the “Toon” World. Not only was the concept in story and graphic design great, but the controller mechanics had such a wide array of movesets, while somehow integrating it to the point of simplicity. The game really has the muster to appeal to gamers of all ages. The open world and high seas was also something to marvel at for the time, with treasures and inventory to find in places you could only get to acting on the game as a full scale exploration. The ...

      • My Favorite Zelda Game

The Wind Waker has been a favorite game to me since my childhood. It encompasses many great features such as an open world, great dungeons, and the themes that the series has become well-known for. Though a lot of time is spent out on the waves, sailing to and from different islands across the map, that doesn't take away from the great characters and overall atmosphere of the game, which keeps you interested for hours at a time. There are more than enough side quests and mini-games to keep you busy for quite some time. As with any Zelda game, be ready to spend several hours enjoying every detail.

      • A fan favorite and critical darling...

There is a reason why every true Zelda fan places this iteration in their top 3- it is a masterpiece. Like most Zelda games, it is not without its flaws. A barren overworld and drawn out travel mechanics aside, this game echoes all that has been great about Zelda since its inception; adventurous mechanics, stunning art, engrossing story and puzzles that could only be described as incredibly satisfying. A MUST OWN for any Zelda or Gamecube collector! File this one away under "instant classic".

      • It’s Zelda. Isn’t that enough?

Yes, the graphics are cartoony. Yes, you sail through the overworld instead of walking or riding a horse. It’s still a Zelda game through and through. It’s not in my top 3, but it’s still fantastic. Criminally underrated when it came out, and a must play for Zelda fans. If you’re new to the series, it could also be a good introduction, as it is significantly easier than the other entries. It’s just a really fun game. Play it.

      • Excellent condition!

The game arrived without the booklet but with the case and game. Game disc has a few scratches, but works perfectly! This really stirred up nostalgia to be able to play this game again. Game's camera function is garbage compared to today's games but otherwise is a good game.
