Best option if you want the Original
This is the only official format to get the Original Theatrical Release. It's DVD quality, not really remastered by today's standards, the video transfer is grainy. This is a Pre-Disney release, and it remains the best official way to get the original Theatrical Releases. There are bootleg transfers out there that upgrade the Theatrical Releases to Blu Ray/HD quality, but beware as they are not manufactured to studio quality and there's a high chance it will glitch on you at least once during playback. There are several franchises out there that have the original and special versions available in high quality HD format (like Blade Runner), it's too bad Disney/Lucas won't do the same for this iconic franchise. While the video quality isn't the best on newer screens, the playback and ... This is the only official format to get the Original Theatrical Release. Theatrical movies are grainy low def (360p) with poor sound quality (Stereo 2.0)
The box set feature disks are NOT the theatrical releases. The main discs contain the revised movies in 16:9 widescreen and Dolby 5.1 sound. The theatrical releases are included as a bonus in 4:3 letter box (360p) in stereo. Horrible picture and sound quality. If I have known the theatrical copies were crippled 4:3 letterbox, I would not have purchased the set.

Fantastic! Shipped fast and in excellent condition. There is no cover for the DVD case but you can use the menu covers that come with it for just that occasion. The only negative is that the picture is a bit smaller, it's not wide or full screen, but still is in high quality! While one could say the price is a negative I would say back to them it's better than the specialized editions. There really is no other ones like this out there any more and you're probably not gonna get any better than this. While I will say this not please EVERYONE this will please those who are looking for the original unedited trilogy of Star Wars and wish to enjoy it how it was meant to be. In conclusion.... BUY IT! A must have for anyone who wants the original versions
I love the Star Wars and purchased it on VHS years ago but my tapes got messed up so I purchased them on DVD before the original versions were no longer available. I've gotten so accustomed to High Definition that I was surprised to see how terrible Standard Definition was. I don't know if they're available but I'd love to have the original versions (Han shot first) in High Definition!
