About this product

Product Information

Canon offers the PowerShot S100 "Digital ELPH" camera. The camera's ultra-compact size and elegant stainless steel exterior is based on the Canon ELPH 2, the company's best-selling Advanced Photo System camera, and it combines the benefits of digital imaging with features and functions traditionally found only in conventional film cameras. Weighing only 6.7 ounces and measuring a scant 3.4 x 2.2 x 1.1 inches, the new camera is the world's smallest and lightest 2.0 megapixel digital camera with a zoom lens. The PowerShot S100 Digital ELPH incorporates a number of features that simplify and improve overall operation including a high-quality 35-70mm (35mm equivalent) 2x optical zoom lens; a new Light Guide flash for even illumination; a high-speed, plug-and-play USB computer interface; a high-brightness 1.5-inch LCD monitor with 100 percent image coverage; an easy-to-read and simplified GUI; three-point AiAF autofocus system; and a comprehensive software bundle featuring Adobe PhotoDeluxe. The PowerShot S100 features an elegant, stainless steel (SUS316) body equipped with a number of advanced camera features including a 35-70mm (35mm equivalent) f/2.8-4.0 all-glass aspherical lens to help minimize image distortion. A 4x digital converter extends the zoom range of the lens to 8x when used in conjunction with its 2x optical zoom capabilities. In addition, the camera is equipped with a three-point AiAF autofocus system that permits the camera to automatically select the primary subject, even if the subject is off-center. To further simplify overall operation, the Digital ELPH displays most camera settings on the LCD monitor. While using the control buttons at the base of the monitor, users can confirm desired camera functions identified on the LCD monitor with easy-to-understand icons or minimal text. The Digital ELPH features a 0.37-inch, 2.0 megapixel CCD sensor that creates full color or black-and-white images up to 1600x1200 pixels when set to the camera's Large resolution mode. The camera also offers an additional resolution setting of 640x480 when set in the Small mode, which is ideal for on-screen applications, such as Web sites and CD-ROMs and allows more images to be recorded on a single CompactFlash memory card.

Item arrive in good shape and as describe. Be advised: This seller takes an inordinate amount of time to ship and claims to be "Understaffed" - Shipping status is inaccurate and "automated"(?). Communication, however, was timely.

  • LOVE THIS CAMERA!!!

I originally bought this camera back in 2001, and it took fantastic photos all around the U.S., Canada and Mexico. I just threw it in my purse and didn't even take care of it at all. It just always worked. When Old Faithful finally "died" in 2014 (after 13 years of great service), I purchased the newest Canon PowerShot. What a waste! The fancy lens covering mechanism broke within three months, I didn't really like the pictures it took, and I had difficulty adjusting to the screen instead of the viewfinder. So I bought another Old Faithful, with which I am VERY, VERY HAPPY. Don't hesitate to buy one of these original PowerShots. It's not easy to find good (real Canon) batteries for them, but it's worth the search. You will LOVE THIS CAMERA!!!!!

  • Great little starter camera!!

It is a great camera for starter photographers or for people who want a simple device for taking decent pictures. Like a gas-guzzling SUV, this camera gobbles up batteries quickly. plan to buy a couple spares (I found some for $2.50 online). You're lucky to get 50 pictures out of a single charge, but if you turn off the LCD and use the viewfinder, the battery lasts longer. And in burst mode, it takes 8 pictures in about 5 second, which is really quick considering its release date was May 2000, over 10 years ago. The pictures themselves are good, and the flash does an excellent job if the lighting isn't adequate. The screen is small (1.5'") compared to current models, but the picture is sharp and bright nonetheless. 2x optical zoom works fine, but doesn't make a big difference, so if you ...

  • Great little camera!

I bought this as a "keep in the car" camera. I was not expecting much in the way of quality from the camera as it is an older model and only 2 megapixels. However, I was very surprised by it. It takes EXCELLENT photos, sometimes better than much more "high end" recent point and shoot digital cameras. True, the resolution will not allow extremely large prints, but I have printed 5 x 7 photos from it that were gorgeous. Sharpness and color rendition are just terrific. I rate it a good instead of excellent only because the user interface is a little awkward, not bad, but not up to modern standards, but that is to be expected. I love the fact that it has a real viewfinder. I will not use a camera that forces you to use the monitor to compose and take photos. The viewfinder on the S100 is large ...

  • Good value for the price.

I lost my digital during our recent move. I didn't want to buy a new one yet until I had time to unpack. I had heard the Canon PowerShot was a good camera. I found an inexpensive used one and it served my purpose until I found my camera. Pictures are clear and has a zoom feature. I will keep it as a back-up. Good value.

  • You will like the camera!

Great camera. I used a canon s110 years ago and upgraded to higher megapixel cameras over the years, I began to miss the canon. I purchased the s100 (which is almost the same thing) It's a great camera just as the s110 was. Takes great pictures for only 2.1 MP. Nice metal body, great quality!!!
