Best cuts on spiral brake housing, but not perfect.
I own a Felco C-7, Park CN-2, Park CN-4 and the Shimano TL-CT12. I’ve used the Hozan C-217 and Pedro’s cable cutter, which are similar to the C-7 design. This isn’t a knock against Hozan or Pedro’s – the original Felco design has been copied by any number of companies - in a number of industries - over the years. All these cable cutters provide a clean cut on derailleur and brake inner wires. The Felco C-7 and the Shimano TL-CT12 provide the best cuts on 4mm braided derailleur housing. But the real test is spiral wound 5mm brake housing and I’ve found no hand-held cutter that can produce a perfect cut. The ShimanoTL-CT12 produces the best cut compared to the other tools – with only a small sharp edge. Unfortunately, I'm still dress the end on a bench sander for a clean fit. The TL-CT12 ... The TL-CT12's built-in awl and crimp tool are very convenient and function well. I'm exclusively using the TL-CT12 right now and giving this tool 4-stars for the time being. We'll see how it holds up over time.
