Great For Old School Enthusiast:
Basically this Mac is one of the first laptops that was strong enough for Mac OSX's & Pro Tools. It has a capacity of 2GBs of RAM..& has a 1.67Ghz PPC processor (Intel hadn't crept in until 2005-2006)..it's the last of it's kind..the keyboard & the backlid lights up..it uses the legendary IDE HDD..& if this was 2009..it would rival the 2010 Macbooks & the MBPs (Macbook Pros)..BUT!!?? this is 2017..so unless you're ONLY using Pro Tools 8..OR!!?? you're just surfing the internet (email, YouTube videos)..this laptop is NOT for you. unfortunately..there are no antivirus programs for Leopard OS..(they say the PPCs doesn't need antivirus software..but i don't believe that at all)..LOL..the speed is decent with the 2GB RAM Sticks..it's like Windows 7 32Bit speed..LOL..so for me, it's like going ... Old but still operational for todays computing needs.
In 2013 this computer still holds it weight against other machines for Email, Web usage, and watching moves. With the use of HTML5 built in natively you can still use most web pages in both normal and mobile mode. Streaming movies from Netflix's or other Flash sites may be tricky as they do not support the PPC processor, however watching a DVD or most downloaded movies is easy and handles well on the machine. I recommend buying only the 1.3+ processors, MAXING out the RAM to 2GB, loading OSX 10.5 and installing Mplayer and VLC. If you have an android phone that is on 4.0 or higher you will need Sync Mate in order to use the phone as a storage device to copy over files. You can also sync contacts with it on the calendar and email/sms contact. Using Camino and Tenfour Fox will ensure that ... Apple PowerBook G4 17"
I needed to update my aging PowerBook Pismos with 14" screens. This one is absolutely perfect. Being on a budget, I really couldn't go for the PowerBook Pro. But for my purposes, this one stands out. Even though it's about 4 years old, it's in beautiful condition. That's a tribute to Apple and their design qualities, and to the previous owner, who knew how to take care of quality equipment. There is really nothing to dislike about this computer. Every computer has its' own "personality" which you easily get used to. Apple Powerbooks are no different. If you're a Windows person trying to convert to Apple, this , or the 15" PowerBook, are perfect. But, you've got to give yourself some time. The G4 PowerBook is as versatile as anyone needs...and affordable too.
First of all I'm a Mac guy and always have been. Anything other than a Mac I have found causes me to want to throw it through a wall....and, yes, any Mac can be a "problem" but when they're in good shape they just can't be beat for ease of use. My favorite is the 17" PowerBook G4. (You can see I'm "old school" about this.) I'm perfectly happy with OS 10 and wish Apple had just stopped there and not tried to become something Macs never had to be, i.e. complicated. I liked the fact that OS 10.4.11 could run both 9 & 10 and really haven't found the need to speed up any more than this. I read an article recently that claimed that modern computer users get impatient if they have to wait more than 250 milliseconds for a page to load. I don't think this is a computer problem, I think it's a ... First of all I'm a Mac guy and always have been. Well, one thing, I wish they'd make a lighter battery for this old 17. Macs ARE expensive of course, so a well taken care of or refurbed Mac of this ilk is a very good buy. Streaming movies? I'd rather use a big screen LCD to see a good movie than a computer anyway....so no need for Intel chip.

Awesome Laptop
I bought this laptop for its large screen and awesome design. I have a newer mac, but I needed the bigger screen for DJing. The laptop's performance is excellent considering that its three years old, everything works beautiful and stands as a testament to Apple's commitment to high quality dependable products. I would recommend this particular model to anyone looking to buy a Mac at a reasonable price.I bought this laptop for its large screen and awesome design. I have a newer mac, but I needed the bigger screen for DJing. The laptop's performance is excellent considering that its three years old, everything works beautiful and stands as a testament to Apple's commitment to high quality dependable products. I would recommend this particular model to anyone looking to buy a Mac at a reasonable price.
