The author does a great job explaining the issues prevalent during the peace process and really gets into the thinking that each of the leaders have. You will have an understanding of the personalities and activities of the peace conference participants that give you a feeling like you are right there in their midst. The geopolitical aims of the participants, the political rivalries, public opinion, the impact of past agreements, the atmosphere of Paris plus great quotes from the time period sprinkled throughout. This review is a bit premature since I am only 5 chapters in but its already a favorite of mine. This is a great read for anyone interested in history and politics.

  • The meeting that changed the 20th Century

Very few meeting have change the world in such a prevasive manor as the Peace Talks in Paris 1919 at the ending of World War I. The repercussions will be recorded in history well into the 21st century. What these men set out to do was very noble but the results were to be vastly different. The decisions made their had effects leading to the rise of Hitler with his obsession to reclaim territories lost in the Treaty of Versailles, the expansion of the Japanese empire on the Asian continent, World War II, the current Middle East crises, French and US Vietnam wars, the Cold War, the 1990's Balkan Wars and the rise and fall of the Soviet Union. This was the first attempt via the formation of the League Of Nations to create a global government. The background details in this book brings to ...

  • Intelligent, well written. Conveys a complicated period in a easy manner.

GREAT BOOK. I bought it because it was mentioned as the definitive book on the Treaty of Paris, which ended World War I. in the book LAWRENCE IN ARABIA. --The book was a very pleasant surprise, Easy reading and dealt with ALL aspect of the Treaty. Its's success, it's failure and various myths. The author also brought you up to date on the ramification of each aspect of the treaty. -I was hesitant to buy the book thinking everything was talked about in Barbara Tuchmans' Guns of August. But it you like history , this is a must.

  • A good read

It was a great book, a little long but a very good read, I learned a lot from it
