Staring directlt at the sun is bad for you

A story of tortured genius, this is Darren Aronofsky's inaugeral piece and arguably his best piece. Hisidic Jews bent on discovering the true name of G_d, Wall street investors bent on breaking the secret code of the market, a former professor who urges caution, a curious neighbor kid who is the calm center in a sea of chaos and ultimately a tragic encounter with a powertool. This one is a mind-blower, folks.

  • brilliant movie, not for the average movie-goer

This movie I originally watched shortly after it's release from the Sundance festival. This movie hits close to home since I have a love for numbers, but when I showed it to some friends, they were left wondering a few things: 1) What happens to Marcy & Lenny and their desires? 2) Is there supposed to be a link here with our way of life and should it? 3) Where's the action? Basically, this movie is for people who love movies and can appreciate artistic content within them. Who it is not for are people who are used to the big-budget blockbuster movies with sound and visual effects, lots of action, and are spoiled by hackneyed plots. It's originality lies in the black and white, overexposed style, the references to a higher being, and the lust for money. I ...

  • Great film, hypnotizing score, which leads to thought-provoking experience.

Pi is a philosophical thriller centered around one man's journey in search of "God" in nature via mathematical patterns. It is a very deep, artsy, and interesting film driven by not only the propagandist's obsession but also a kick-ass drum-and-bass soundtrack. My only misgiving is the distracting overacting which plagues the film at times.

  • Movie Pi

Pi is a movie about a non-religious Jew who discovers some pipe dream number in the privacy of his home. This money sucking Gadfly number, if found, will allows him to fleece every dollar from the New York Stock exchange. I purchased Pi because I imagined Pi would be like Wall Street; which is a great movie. Unlike Wall Street, which gives the viewer fascinating insight about unethical business practices that actually chop up whole companies, put thousands of people out of work and corrupt desperate stock brokers whose crime is to earn big money and live good, Pi compared to this is a lame duck. When you watch Pi, right away you'll see it's not like any other high budget movie you viewed before. I can only visualize Pi like a drug addict, high on drugs, robbing a camcorder ...

  • Dark & fascinating

Pi is a ancient Greek letter used to signify the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter. Pi is always the same no matter what circle is used. Pi is approximately 3.14159265358979323846... and it goes on and on and on. Pi goes on infitely with no pattern - as far as we know... This dark film tells the story of a mathematician attempting to discern predictable patterns in the stock market. As he searches, he becomes deeper immersed in the problem. A unique movie - combining Wall Street and Cabbalah. Every math student should see this film. Very interesting, very dark...but the ending is perfect.
