The Hills Have Eyes (2006, DVD)
For a few years in the 1970s, horror films occupied their own unhinged, blood-soaked Wild West zone. Made in the shadow of Charles Manson and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, they became low-budget godless nightmares, with the mystical terrors of old shoved aside in favor of redneck cannibals, rusty power tools, girls in cutoffs getting their limbs cut off, and the trés counterculture image of the American nuclear family under siege. I still remember watching The Hills Have Eyes at a drive-in, and the low-budget grunginess of Wes Craven's 1977 shocker was integral to its effect; it told you that the film came from outside the system, that it was made with a lack of restriction — on violence, and on imagination, too — that big-studio horror didn't share. (Yes, folks, it's a message movie.) Produced by Craven, The Hills Have Eyes follows the original closely. A fractious family, whose members include Lost's Emilie de Ravin and the gifted Aaron Stanford from Tadpole, move to California in a station wagon joined to a camper and, once again, are stranded in the desert by a broken axle. I'm not going to say anything more to give away to the people who live there in the hills. But a must see movie if you are into GORE AND LIMBS BEING SEVERED... More Gore Than Scare!
This movie was definitely not what I had expected. On rare occassion I'll find a remake where I haven't seen the original-this was that occassion. The previews for this movie looked very promising! So as with most movies, I waited until it came out on dvd to purchase it. (I don't get out to the theater often with two small children!) Now, I've seen some pretty horrid movies where the 'horror' part was missing and the 'gore' was up front and personal. This movie is one of those. Definitely not scary at all. At times what you thought was going to happen didn't-this movie went a bit further than most. When those things happened, you didn't realise that the camera was going to be in your face! I'm not going to give away any snippets or scenes, but I will say that if you like slightly ... This movie was definitely not what I had expected. Before I Saw The Hills Have Eyes, I Really Didnt Have Any Feelings About Horribly Mutated Freaks, Who Live In Areas Where Atomic Testing Took Place, And Their Strange Customs, Like Canabalism, Torture, Rape, And So Forth. However After Witnessing, First Hand ( thru this documentary ) These Disgusting Habits, I Must Confess To A Degree Of Dislike For These Sub-Human Monsters. Thats Why I Am Writing This Review. If After Seeing "The Hills Have Eyes", You Find Your Self Feeling The Same Way As I Do About This Issue, Then I Urge You To Write To Your Elected Representative In Goverment, And Tell Him Or Her " Lets Get Those Big Nukes Blowin Again" The Jobs Not Done. Because When Its All Said And Done, I Think You'll Agree..."A PSYCOPATHIC MUTANT IS AN EXELLENT THING TO WASTE"Before I Saw The Hills Have Eyes, I Really Didnt Have Any Feelings About Horribly Mutated Freaks, Who Live In Areas Where Atomic Testing Took Place, And Their Strange Customs, Like Canabalism, Torture, Rape, And So Forth. Crazy Movie
This movie is scary and crazy at the same time. You never know what will happen next in this film. And the unrated version has much more gore to add. If you like movies like hostel and tourista then you will love this one.

Love It!
I watched this movie when it first came out in 06 and loved it. I finally bought it when I felt my kiddos could handle it, and we all love it! If you like sitting at the edge of your seat and anticipation, I'm sure you will like this movie! I dont typically like movies about things that dont exist in reality, but theres something about this one that I do like.
