This is an old product; but if you get the latest driver software--via Microsoft Update or Microsoft Hardware--it's wonderful for everyday video chatting via Skype (Live Messenger is no longer supported). If you use Windows Vista, you might want to install "Microsoft LifeCam HD-5001 Firmware Update" before as a prerequisite to the standard driver update.

I was using a Logitech brand webcam before using rocketfish hd cam But the lifecam hd 5001 Tops them all The picture is crystal clear has great cam features and does well in any lighting. This cam not only beats all the competition in its own price range but its alot better then some 100$ + webcams i have used.

Not the best but very good
In addition to this Microsoft LifeCam 5001, I have a Logitech C500 and an AUSDOM AW615. This camera has good focus and image quality but the Logitech is the best of the three. It was a snap to set up. I use all 3 cameras in a motion detection security program on a Win XP 32-bit machine.

Nice camera, my daughter loves it!
Easy to use (with us it was plug and play.) We use it with Skype and Skype pretty much configured everything for us. Read about the auto focus being a nuisance...and it was. Luckily we did our homework prior to buying the camera and had the fix for it. Overall, good camera and even better price. We always look for a reputable seller and this one was no exception.
