Director John Singleton ably blends his action skills (SHAFT, 2 FAST 2 FURIOUS) and his gift for capturing the warm heart at the center of violent urban masculinity (BABY BOY, BOYZ N THE HOOD) to create a cooked-to-perfection gangsta stew. A soundtrack jammed with 1970s Motown classics roots everything firmly in the gritty tradition of the best of that decade's blaxploitation and urban revenge thrillers. Action highlights include a skidding car chase through snowy streets, some rough street hockey, and a bullet-intensive neighborhood shoot-out. With its talented, likeable cast, clever plotting, and sharp dialogue, this is a real crowd-pleaser that nonetheless doesn't shy away from depictions of street violence. There's not an ounce of fat on it--no extraneous romance, and no going "straight" at the end. Terrence Howard (HUSTLE & FLOW) is the well-meaning but ineffectual detective who tries to put a lid on the boys' rebelliousness. The spirits of Dirty Harry and Charles Bronson should be proud, and action fans will be well pleased.

Four Brothers (DVD, 2005)
This was an enjoyable movie about four foster brothers who, after years apart come together to mourn the loss of their foster mother who was senselessly murdered during a convenience store robbery. She just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. They were all troubled kids living on the mean Detroit streets when she took them in and made decent men of them all. Now reunited again, they rekindle their affections and solemnly swear an oath to avenge the death of the only mother they had ever known. This is a fairly simple plot and this movie will never win any awards, but there is just something very satisfying about seeing people say, "Enough!" Together they say just that and go about finding and "Handling" the problem. This film has good action, pretty good acting, and a ... In one of his best roles ever, Mark Whalberg plays a guy. Not a bad guy, just a guy, trying to live in this world the best way he can. All of the brothers. Times are hard for everyone. But when your Mom is murdered, it is time to ask some names and Kick !@#. I love the insaneness of his "wing it" plans, but they worked. It has a great soundtrack, great, colorful characters and a good story. You get some comedy, drama, action. It is all there.In one of his best roles ever, Mark Whalberg plays a guy. Funny and Action-Packed Movie With a Great Story!
This is a fantastic movie! I thought it looked good from the trailer, and it didn't disappoint! Its fast-paced, has lots of action, comedy, and a good plot! Right from the beginning the movie gets the story going...unlike some movies which take a half hour to get the basic storyline out. These guys are all great...really believable as brothers...their bond is unbelievable and heartfelt!! I enjoyed this movie so much!!! My mom borrowed it from me, and she loved it as well!
