About this product

Product Information

Directed by Richard Donner (SUPERMAN, LETHAL WEAPON), 16 BLOCKS is a tale of corrupt police officers, a Grand Jury witness, and one cop who is trying to do the right thing. Jack Mosley (Bruce Willis) is weary. A lame leg and a love affair with alcohol make him a virtual joke at the NYPD. Tired and ready to head home, Mosley is assigned one last job before he can punch out: pick up petty thief Eddie Bunker (Mos Def) in lock-up and transport him to the courthouse where he is set to testify before the Grand Jury. Only 16 New York City blocks separate the two, but it might as well be a million miles. Soon, the officer and his charge find themselves under fire, becoming the target of someone who wants to keep Bunker from testifying. Escaping the initial attack, Mosley calls for backup only to discover that corrupt police officers, including his ex-partner Frank Nugent (David Morse), want Bunker out of the picture.Mosley surprises everyone--maybe even himself--by doing the right thing and saving Bunker from certain death. With only 118 minutes to get the witness to the courthouse before the case will be thrown out, Mosley pulls out every trick in the book. He maneuvers Bunker through the crowded, confined streets of Manhattan's Chinatown towards their destination, trying to avoid the police officers who are hunting them down as they race against time. Willis fully inhabits Mosley, a washed-up cop who is haunted by his past decisions, and Mos Def is right on target as Bunker, a chatty career criminal being hunted just as he is ready to turn his life around and make something of himself.

  • 16 Blocks (2006, DVD) PG-13

I liked the plot to get from point a to b, but the people standing between you and doing your job are the ones you work with. Mos Def played a excellent role, but the language used in this movie depict a "R" rating and not PG-13. We are suppose to be setting the example for the children and the excuse they hear those words everyday doesn't take away the responsibilties of the actor/actreses in doing the right thing. I made a deal with my kids early on in there childhood, because my daughter hit me with "dad, why can you listen to music and watch movies with bad language?" well no comeback, so I made a deal with them, if you can't listen to or watch things with profanity then neither will I. This movie would have the same impact w/o the profanity, but I guess vulgar language, sex, ...

  • What can I say besides...VERY PREDICTABLE

Anybody who has ever seen a descent cop vs bad guy movie will find this movie very predictable. Bruce Willis is hardly recognizable but still his at his Die Hard best. One of the most nauseating things I found in the movie was Mos Def's constant nasally voice. Ever time the guy went to speak I wanted to hit the mute on my remote (sorry, but I found it just that bad). I sure hope he raps better than he talks (if that's his real voice). I also like the alternate ending better, my wife preferred the original. The most appealing character to me was the one played by David Morse. He plays a bad cop sooo good (as witnessed on the television show House a few seasons ago). There were a few questionable scenes, but I suppose it's just a movie and we're supposed to overlook those. You'll be asking ...

  • Lots of Action

Bruce Willis as the over-the-hill cop, David Morse as the menacing, corrupt cop & Mos Def as the whiny prisoner in transit to give testimony in a grand jury trial all shine in this exciting action flik. Cylk Cozart gives a good performance too as the sister of Bruce Willis' character. Watch the alternate ending (in Special Features); it's pretty good but I liked the one in the DVD feature much better. This is not an Academy Award winning film, but it's well worth having and better than a lot of other action flix.

  • 16 Blocks is worth the Ride!

Yes, it’s another Action flick with the oft repeated alcoholic veteran cop trying to stay under the radar till he reaches retirement played by Bruce Willis. Mos Def’s character is a whiney, seemingly unimportant criminal who won’t stop babbling nonsense on his way to testify at a grand jury hearing by 10 AM. But don’t let the annoying tone of his voice put you off, pay attention to what he says. Like most good movies, there are no unimportant scenes or throw-away lines. And this is a very good movie. Between the police station and the courthouse are more than just 16 blocks of impossible city traffic, there are half a dozen or more dirty cops trying desperately to snuff out this witness, and at the head of the pack is Willis’ partner and friend of 20 years. The tension between these ...

  • Action Packed!

What do you get when you mix a great script with stellar acting and edge of your seat action? Why 16 Blocks of course..movie begins with a drunken Cop played by Bruce Willis he's fed up and ready to call it quits..as he's walking out the door for the day he's asked rather ordered to escort an inmate to the grand jury just 16 blocks away..here's the fun part...he has a gang of bad Cops ie: his Friends on their tails wanting that inmate dead..will they succeed, watch it and see! My only gripe is the inmates voice and his incessant need to talk..I especially loved the ending..Viewers will love this film it's Buce Willis at his best!!
