Bancroft and de luise together are BRILLIANT. How does someone take the serious subject of "an untimely death" and turn it into a 3 ring circus, complete with humility and hilarity? Bancroft does! If you like spaghetti, you'll love this movie.

Tried to find a download. Looked like only HBO subscribers of which I’m not. This movie took me back to my childhood when I saw this for the first time. Good memories and a cool glimpse of the past in NYC. Funny lines and situations I distinctly remember.

This is a fabulous movie, especially for those of you (and me) of Jewish and Italian descent. It centers on Dom DeLuise's character, a middle-aged Italian who desperately wants to lose weight, but usually gives in to his hungry desires. Whether it's $40 worth of Chinese food consumed in one sitting, or eating the "ony" off a cake that said "Happy Birthday Anthony," he just can't stop. And you get a foreshadowing at the very beginning of the movie with two scenes. It's right after cousin Sal dies, who is, coincidentally, buried in a grand piano-sized coffin. Dom is in the kitchen with either his mom or his sister and she's cooking a huge vat of pasta sauce. Dom takes a piece of Italian bread on a fork, dips it in the sauce, shakes a little grated cheese on the bite, then eats it. Such ... This is a fabulous movie, especially for those of you (and me) of Jewish and Italian descent. It's so perfect for her as well as Dom DeLuise. Bancroft wrote and directed the movie. Love the scene where she gets heartburn.. rubbing between her breasts and saying, "ugh, I have such ajida." My dad brought the movie home years and years ago, I think right when it came out on VHS (movie was made in 1980). It has been one of our favorites for so many years. I finally found it here on eBay on DVD and couldn't be happier. I need to bring it to my parent's house so we can watch it again!!

This is one of the most enjoyable comedies ever produced. It was filmed in the early 80's and it's one of the last of it's kind. It's a simple low budget movie that moved and touched me as much as The Godfather. It starts off dark comedy but quickly turns light. The casting is brilliant. The loveable Dom Deluise is at his best as is Ann Bancroft. This is a MUST for any mature family. It's the perfect gift for any Italian American. Set in Little Italy in 1982 at the end of a great era when life was still simple. This movie will make you laugh till you cry. Buy this movie as a gift and they will love you for it. Buy it just to watch with your family and you will bring you closer together. But this move and watch it with a loved one or a room full of loved ones and you will have a great ... Anne Bancroft takes on a serious subject in a way that pokes fun at the Stereotypical Italian-Americans, Obeseity, support groups and bundles it with romance and self discovery. A wonderful film that deals with the closeness of family, the neighborhood and the church, that prevails in every ethnic neighborhood. The scene at cousin Salvatore's wake makes you want to cry and laugh out loud at the same time. A triumph of mixing a comedic movie with the sensitivity of love and caring. Dom DeLuise is as always , perfect in the lead, with a twinkle in his eye, rivaling the great Zero Mostel... "gimme just a drop of honey in my hot water, Junior!"" Everyone that ever dieted, will find solace and a few laughs in this film.
