About this product

Product Information

Few American lives are stranger, more action-packed, or wilder than that of Hunter S. Thompson. Born a rebel in Louisville , Kentucky , Thompson spent a lifetime channeling his energy and insight into such landmark works as Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas - and his singular and provocative style challenged and revolutionized writing. Now, for the first time ever, Jann Wenner and Corey Seymour have interviewed the Good Doctor's friends, family, acquaintances and colleagues and woven their memories into a brilliant oral biography. From Hell's Angels leader Sonny Barger to Ralph Steadman to Jack Nicholson to Jimmy Buffett to Pat Buchanan to Marilyn Manson and Thompson's two wives, son, and longtime personal assistant, more than 100 members of Thompson's inner circle bring into vivid focus the life of a man who was even more complicated, tormented, and talented than any previous portrait has shown. It's all here in its uncensored glory: the creative frenzies, the love affairs, the drugs and booze and guns and explosives and, ultimately, the tragic suicide. As Thompson was fond of saying, "Buy the ticket, take the ride."

Tracking number didn’t work which was a bit of a pain but item came earlier than expected. The item was packaged very well. Being a record it’s hard to be perfect quality considering its age but was as good and exactly as presented by seller. Overall good experience and would buy from seller again!

  • Hunter S. Thompson - Gonzo

An fine addition to Hunter S. Thompson's story. This oral Bio gives different angles and insights into a complex, troubled and very talented mind. His spirited, quirky, reactionary and sometimes hilariously criminal behavior is on display through the stories told by his innermost circle of friends and a large group of people who came into contact with his charming and lively personality. A true, living art-form in shorts, sunglasses and cigarette holder.

  • The perfect Thompson biography.

"Gonzo" is probably the best way to get to know Hunter S Thompson, aside from reading his actual writings. Basically everyone who ever knew the Good Doctor contributes to this biography, from childhood friends to A-list actors. The one notable exception is Anita Thompson, Hunter's last wife, which is presumably because she wrote her own book on him. I would highly recommend this book as it thoroughly describes Hunter and his complexities as well as the complex relationships he had with those around him.

i needed this book to know something more about Thompson, something which goes beyond his myth. Though I've read only 50 pages, and the way to finish is long I can only say that first impression is positive, I like the approach of the authors to the genre of biography. andrea
