Jewel in the Crown DVD Set
I originally saw this series in the 1980’s on PBS tv. I found it intriguing and captivating then and I still do in this remastered version. It takes place in India during World War 2 and is heavily about British rule and transition to Indian Rule. It follows several characters through many situations and gives a much expanded sense of history in a personal perspective.

Excellent acting, directing, and filming.
This is a splendid adaptation of Paul Scott's book. This DVD, with the subtitles and color collections is excellent. I have an earlier DVD version without subtitles and a lot of the dialogue is lost.

A Classic and in an updated print with better audio
Paul Scott's classic in its entirety. Great quality DVD with much better audio than the VHS. A compelling and dramatic story of the last years of the Raj and a splendid plot thread that runs through all of the archetypal characters. Outstanding British and Indian cast--never disappoints !

Engrossing, thoroughly enjoyable series,
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed this series. All the actors did a spectacular job. We opted to include Alistair Cooke's introductions which provided background material and enriched our viewing and understanding of historical events. I am glad that this remastered copy provided English SDH subtitles.

Great Story That Could Have Been Done Better
A very interesting story combining four novels in the Raj era during and immediately after WWII. Only disappointment are many gaps that leave the viewer curious as to the fate of the main actors.
