Ashes of the Wake is the fourth studio album by American heavy metal band Lamb of God, released in 2004. This record was rated by Guitar World magazine as the 49th greatest Guitar Album of all Time. This is the first album I experienced from the band, and it is by far my favorite after now owning the remainder of their collection. "Ashes of the Wake" epitomizes Lamb of God's brutality, talent, and signature sound in its purest form. The instruments are undeniably amazing, whether or not you enjoy the genre. The singer's deep growling voice is at times inaudible, but adds very much to the menacing tone of Lamb of God's music. The lyrics are as well written as any I've seen. Ashes of the Wake is fantastically orginal and contains riffage that will put you in a head lock and rape your earginas to the point of tantalizing pleasure. Anyone who truly loves music has got to respect the talent it took to make this disc and the dedication to all intruments from each member of this band. From the awesomely intriciate percussion and killer crunchy riffs that flinging off to a light yet still speedy metal melody while the bass explodes like a shot gun that shoots similar to a tommy gun. And the vocals are not only deep with content but also sung, growled, muttered, spoken and screamed in a mood setting manner like no other. "Omerta" is the tune on this disc that orginally turned me on to Lamb of god and I recently bought their new disc "Wrath" which ... Absolutely their best.
This is the pinnacle of Lamb Of God's albums to date. Their others are good, but this one is absolutely one of the finest metal releases of the 2000's. I would recommend this disc to anyone that loves metal. I myself am not a huge fan of "cookie monster" vocals, but the sheer genius behind the music itself more than makes up for D.Randall Blythes inability to sing. From Laid To Rests brutal beginnings, all the way through to Remorse Is For The Dead, you will be amazed by Chris Adler and his drumming technique. Little brother Willie Adler along with Mark Morton, stun you with riff after riff of smoking hot guitar. Not to leave out John Campbell, and his equally stunning bass lines. Being a bass player myself, I know how hard he works to lay down a bass backbone so ... This is the pinnacle of Lamb Of God's albums to date.
