A flight combat sim set at the onset of WWI, Rise of Flight: The First Great Air War -- Iron Cross Edition drops players in the cockpits of era-authentic aircraft and lets them engage in dogfights over more than 125,000 square kilometers of battle-scarred French topography. Gamers can climb into virtual versions of the Spad 13.C1, the Fokker D. VII, and the Nieuport 28.C1, and then get acclimated to the controls through training and single-player combat missions. The "Pilot Career" mode lets armchair aviators fly historically accurate campaigns for the French, British, German, and American air forces, with missions requiring precision strikes on enemy aircraft and ground forces. In addition to flight mechanics designed to provide an accurate reconstruction of WWI-era flying, Rise of Flight also features a realistic damage model and true-to-life fog, rain, and sunshine. Gamers who grow tired of computer competition can join friends for online co-op or competitive multiplayer challenges, while the "Mission Editor" lets creative players design custom campaigns.

    You gotta pay if you wanna fly!

    Well, it says it is a PC game, and they mean it. No chance of running on a laptop. It is an excellent game design, has lots of plane updates available on the web, comes with a map, a keyboard template and offers great flight sims. You need a hot graphics card to make this game work, as well as 4 G RAM and a 3.0Hz dual core processor. I ended up having to build a dedicated flight sim PC for it, so it is gonna cost a lot more than $29.99. You will need a heavy-duty power supply as well to run graphics card. As long as you know what you are getting into up front, go for it. It is a great game, but expensive.

    Fantastic game. Best WW1 combat sim to date.

    This IS the best ww1 simulation out there, hands down. Flight physics are very realistic! Just amazing! All the planes that are included in the Iron Cross Edition have a lot of historical details! It's learning curve is not steep. I feel it is a great game for the novice to intermediate pilot to play. It will take some learning though. Graphics are FANTASTIC! Everything maxed and not a single glitch to speak of yet. Can't wait to combine this with the TrackIR 5!!! Well worth the money. Superb! System specs are: Asrock Extreme 9 MOBO G.Skill 2133 RAM 16Gb Windows 7 ultimate i7-3770K Ivy Bridge Cpu 3.51 ghz 1tb Western Digital HD 120Gb Samsung 840 Pro SSD Nvidia GTX 680 GPU

    I was hesitant to invest in what seemed to be a "second hand" computer game, knowing that there would be a serial number to validate the game while it is being installed, I elected to purchase it anyway. The product was delivered as it was discribed, securly wrapped and in a reasonable amout of time. It(the game)installed and operates flawlessly. My money was not waisted. I'd not hesitate to trade again with this person.

    beautiful sim

    This is a result of a group of dedicated Russian programmers who designed a state of art WW I flight sim. Physics and lighting modeling will let you arcade it or go full till full on realism. Makes you wonder how the earlier fliers ever survived these well nicknamed kites. Be aware that the low speeds and structural limits make you earn your wings.

    I have had hours of enjoyment with Rise of Flight, Iron Cross Edition

    Great pick for the flying buff. love flying games. It is a little old but if you like flying games, this is the one to get. I am not disappointed. Well worth the money
