    Great little internal 4-drive controller

    Positives greatly outweigh the minor nigglies... Remember that this is probably a "pull". Love the fact that this comes with the data cables - the enclosure that this card went into had a motherboard SATA connector with cables too short to relocate to this controller. Included cables were perfect. This unit is designed with drive cage with a backplane in mind, so a separate ribbon cable [for LED and status] could not be used with my 4 separate drive setup... Downloaded manual, had to McGyver a connection from the LED output pins on card to the motherboad drive indicator pins to wake up the case drive activity LED - no biggie. NOTE: Be aware that the backup battery can take a day or so to fully charge, so expect error message[s] upon 1st few system starts. My server is purring along... ...

    Not very good for standard desktop application...

    I was very pleased to see the item was new-old stock, in a sealed box and ready to go...I am sure it works just great in the right application, but unfortunately it will not work in my new Dell Vostro 5880 desktop - not the card's fault, but I believe a "marketing" limitation asserted in the firmware by Dell to force you to buy up in their product line in order to implement RAID... Very sad situation in my opinion, particularly when the Dell BIOS/UEFI has a setting for RAID (for embedded Intel RST, which won't work either!) that you can see in their online documentation, that when ordering, one can infer that the box supports RAID embedded and/or RAID cards...oh well, live-n-learn... The main reason I downrated the card is that it runs so hot that you need some sort of additional cooling ...
