A manly man's tear jerker.
Brothers, grab that roll of paper towels and a good stiff drink. You are about to experience the grief and loss of a brother, but also the honor and dignity afforded him by the always faithful USMC. This movie will put you on an emotional roller coaster, but you will be much richer for having seen it. Tears will rain down, but you won't be able to stop watching this flick. Why HBO didn't release this to the theaters is beyond me, but I personally believe it should be required viewing in every high school in this nation. Why? Because it might bring forth some badly needed patriotism. Now a note to my fellow Wyomingites. This movie deals with the (real) loss of one of our own sons. Whether you are from a military family or not, you have to understand the importance of bringing the bodies of the dead men and women home. Lt. Col. Mike Strobl was a number cruncher for the Marine Corps. He had served his time in Desert Storm and now helps out by serving here at home. With a number of his friends returning to Iraq this time around, Strobl keeps a nightly watch on the list of casualities coming home from Iraq. He notices a Marine, PFC Chance Phelps, who had enlisted in Colorado, was returning. Strobl sees this as a chance to go back home to his hometown. Strobl volunteers to escort the body home. Taking Chance... MUST SEE!
Film you MUST see… Now I’m not a huge fan of HBO films, but I feel I must mention this one. They seam to have gotten it right this time. Most of the time HBO creates films, which usually lack content and quality acting. Both of which have been over come in the film ”Taking Chance”. This is a film starring Kevin Bacon as Colonel Strobl, a marine who volunteers to escort the remains of Lance Corporal Chance Phelps home to Montana. This film shows how the armed forces handle the remains of the fallen and the respect and honor they have for them. Along the way you also see how the public, both silent and verbalized have the same for the fallen. From the Ticket agent who upgrades the Colonel to first class, the pilot who announces the special cargo to the funeral home director, we see ... We hear the numbers, we read the statistics, but we don't really understand what the loss of a soldier in battle means in human grief. This touching movie documents the bringing home of a fallen soldier and seeing that his body is returned to his family in a dignified and honorable way. Based on a true incident, it begins with an officer deciding he would like to escort the body of a soldier to his family. Step by step we accompany him through the process and are touched by the respect and caring shown to him and his cargo by people along the way. There are no war scenes, no blood, no gore and no scenes inserted for shock value. Rather it gives us glimpses of these things through the words and actions of those who are directly or indirectly involved in the return of a young ... It is one of the most touching films I've seen in a very long time and would recommend it to anyone who would like to have a better understanding of what a war really costs in terms of human life. Kevin Bacon did an outstanding job as the officer accompanying the body home. He powerfully conveyed the emotions of the film without hype or slobbering emotion. The dignity and genuine caring he portrayed was reserved and tasteful. In fact, the whole film is well done.

I BOUGHT THIS BECASE I AM A MARINE AND HAVE BEEN THERE DONE THAT AND HAVE THE T-SHIRT AND 214 TO SHOW FOR IT. LEAVE NOBODY BEHIND AND BE THAT WITNESS..... This is a call to Attention, hair raising, "ALMAR". Being born in the woods and raised by a bear. This is for a Marine must have just like Full Metel Jacket, Platoon, Few Good Men, Iwo Jima, and Dear Hunter. I was there and this is Awsome, Snap, Ears, And Eyeballs. This also puts to light that just because you are a reservist or a poge at time of war you have to give Honnor the the fallen. They face a different war at home and still bare the scares of war. This is good for the sivilion world to see and pay tribute, see that there freedom does come as a big price. Thou we may not all just pay some but there ...
