About this product

Product Information

Tales of Destiny II follows Namco's earlier game, Tales of Destiny for the PlayStation. Since their days on the Super Famicom, the Tales games have gained a huge following in Japan and retained a consistent stylistic approach to gameplay and visuals. Like its predecessors, Tales of Destiny II is a sprite-based, 2D game that boasts a combat engine quite different from many of its peers.

The story of Tales of Destiny II involves a mysterious stranger who crash lands on our hero's planet and meets two young but brave travelers who become wrapped up in a life-or-death quest that will determine the fate of both of their home planets. The safety of the universe also hangs in the balance, of course. The 2D visual style of the game, which is occasionally blended with 3D special effects, is straight out of the pages of a Japanese manga, complete with the large eyes and multi-colored hair that one might expect from such a design motif.

The game's combat system, which takes place on a flat, two-dimensional plane much like a fighting game, is handled in real time. The player only controls one of up to four people in his or her party, but they have the opportunity to give other members of their party more specific demands. In addition to the normal poking, slashing and striking attacks, the combat system, dubbed the Linear Motion Battle, allows players to perform special attacks known as Craymel Artes, eventually combining these arts into new and more powerful attacks.

In addition to all of this, Tales of Destiny II, like its predecessors, also features a continuing sub-quest known as the tri-Ace cooking system. Players will occasionally encounter a mysterious master chef, who will give them a list of ingredients found all throughout the game world. Players must find these vital items, eventually combining them. The result is a food product that will give them some sort of special bonus, and help them inch closer to their mammoth goal of galactic salvation.

it is a great game! i love it!

If you are a fan of classic role playing games, and you're tired of always playing the same ole' Final Fantasy games over and over again... then look no further than Tales of Destiny 1 and Tales of Destiny 2! Namco always delivers on the most anticipated rpg games with their latest game in the series Tales of Berseria on the Playstation 4.

  • Tales of Destiny II (PS1)

This is an excellent RPG game, unfortunately not enough copies were made and not enough people knew about the game. Nonetheless, you can't go wrong with this incredible game with a great 2D sidescrolling action oriented battle system and multiplayer gameplay (up to 4 people) make this one of the most innovative and fun RPG's EVER MADE, period. There's plenty to uncover sidequest wise and the game offers new challenges after you finish the game, so plenty of replay value going as well. This RPG is easily up there with FFVII as the very best RPG the Playstation console has to offer, and not because of story but gameplay! Don't get me wrong, this game has a very good story it just may take a few playthroughs to get everything out of it and see it for what it is which is a very good story. ...

  • Classic pedigree RPG for 4 players

Tales of Destiny 2 follows the same basic design as the first Tales of Destiny, with slightly disproportionate character design, not quite chibi style but close, and a side scrolling 2 dimensional battle system. The voice acting is decent, but there are no really awesome animated cut scenes like you would find in a final fantasy. This isn't a game you play to be impressed by, it's more a warm fuzzy RPG fix for us addicts out there. A worthwhile buy if you liked any other installation in the Tales series. The number one reason to buy this game? It's one of the few 4 player RPGs out there. Tales of Symphonia, another in the tales series for a different system (the gamecube), has the same 4 player set-up. Four controllers can each control the four different characters in the party. My ...

  • A very under appriciated JRPG

Originally known as Tales of Eternia in Japan, Tales of Desity II is one of those under appreciated JRPGs for the Playstation. The story follows Reid Hershel, his childhood friends Farah Oersted and Keele Zeibel, and a mysterious girl named Meredy as they try to prevent the Grand Fall, which entails the violent collision of twin planets Inferia and Celestia. Character development isn't as deep as other Tales games, though I love the character development for the main hero, Reid Hershel. While the world map is in 3D, the towns and dungeons remain in 2D. While the graphics remain simple for a PS game, the graphics still have improve from the 2 earlier Tales games released on the PS, Tales of Destiny and Tales of Phantasia (released in Japan only). Tales of Destiny II carries on the ...

  • Tales of Destiny II

I was always a fan of the "Tales of..." series. I had heard great things about a game called Tales of Eternia, which I shortly learned was remade in the US under the tales of Tales of Destiny II. After completing two Tales game already, I thought the game would be no fun. However, this game is great. The storyline is well-developed, and doesn't change in any way. The characters are great, and become attached to you in a way. After playing other Tales games, I was pleased to hear that in this game, two characters could summon during battle. I was so happy about this, and I wanted the game immediately. If you are a long-time RPG fan, or a new-comer to the RPG group, I would suggest this game. The only problem I had with this game was the voice acting at first. But after a while, ...
