    Great lens

It is a super macro lens. very fast auto focus and very good image stabilisator.

  • A great lens at a realistic price.

This little beauty provides an amazing amount of fun per dollar and comes highly reccomended. I currently have two L lenses and had looked at the new 100mm 2.8 macro L series but could not see the value against the EF. If you do decide to buy a macro lens you should really have a decent tripod to go with it. Handheld is OK but careful inspection of images at 100% will often show slight camera shake even at 100th sec or faster. Also maintaining your target in focus with a wide aperture whilst handheld is almost impossible at macro distances. The colour rendering is not as bright and saturated as with L lenses but it is OK and shooting in RAW makes changes easy. This also makes a good portrait lens on a full frame camera and the wide 2.8 aperture come in handy.

  • For the price this is an absolutely excellent lens, which won't disappoint.

Before buying this lens I read a number of reviews, one of which said something like 'the best bang for your buck currently available in Canon lenses'. I must admit I'd support this assertion wholeheartedly, though without extensive qualification as I can't claim to have tried every lens in the Canon arsenal. My regular lens lineup includes 4 L series models (16-35 f2.8, 24-70 f2.8, 24-105 f4 IS, 70-200 f2.8 IS) and I'm used to their very high quality and also their very high price tag. I wanted a macro lens for a very specific amateur project and was therefore reluctant to spend circa £800 for the 100mm f2.8 L series macro, so following a little research I opted for this the cheaper version of this lens. All I can say is that I'm a very long way from disappointed: the images produced so ...

  • An excellent lens, very good value. Will be well used.

Purchased as a replacement for my trusty Sigma 105mm macro as part of an upgrade programme. I prefer this design, where the lens length is fixed and does not extend like the Sigma. Should really be an L series lens. I will be keeping this lens for a long time.
