I was a teenager in the '60's and only knew about Dusty Springfield from her top 40 hits like "You Don't Have to Say You Love Me" "Son of a Preacher Man" and "I Only Want to Be With YOu." But she was so much more. This album Dusty in Memphis showcases her cross genre talents. She sang what was then termed "blue-eyed soul", pop and dramatic ballads. But country and jazz were also in her repertoire. Dusty in Memphis has, since it's release been hailed as her best work and one of the greatest albums of all time, It was selkected by the Library of Congress for preservation in the National Recording Registry for being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant". I say - please if you haven't kistened to this masterpiece by Dusty Springfield now is the time. It is a ... If you have any emotion, it will touch and haunt you and you'll fall in love with this girl and feel what she's feeling. It's one of those rare recordings that will reach you and change you forever. And you will discover Dusty Springfield and realize the tremendous loss to music. And even moreso, to the human condition. We could sure use one like this today. If you truly love music, or you want to buy a wonderful gift for someone that does, buy Dusty In Memphis. One of the greatest albums ever recorded and easily the best soul album by any artist of any gender or race, this record is finally be discovered by the masses....almost 40 years after it's release you cannot buy anything by the top female artists of today that's even in the same league. But be forewarned; after buying and listening you may well find yourself buying everything she ever recorded. P.S. And to new Dusty fans, please avoid Vicki Wickhams horrid smear job of a book Dancing With Demons. If you're interested enough to find out more about Dusty, there are books written by people she wasn't a meal ticket for and don't have an agenda. The upcoming biopics may be no better, as it appears they are going to focus on her later personal and substance issues rather than her early development and artistry. There are also some great Dusty forums with loads of interesting stories and facts.
