Elegant rendering of the New York Central system.
This large book on the history of the New York Central Railroad is profusley illustrated with engravings and full page pictures. This book is an easy read from the beginning ideas for putting together a railroad that would not compete with existing modes of transportation such as the Erie canal and Hudson river steamships to the dominate one in the form of the luxurious Twentieth Century Limited to the end in merger and bankruptcy. While many of the pictures are generic shots of terminals and equipment, the portraits are of principle participants in the NYC's history and all are printed very clearly. I looked through this book. There is alot of good historic photographs , but some are ill chosen. I think better quality ones could have been used. However the book was written in the pre-internet days , so finding source material probably was alot more difficult
