About this product

Product Information

The Memphis Belle led a blazing trail of invincibility through the flak and fighter-filled skies over the Third Reich during WWII. After losing a total of nine engines, both wings, both landing gear, and two tails, she was the featured star of a landmark Hollywood film documentary that made her famous the world over. Forgotten and forlorn, the Belle was nearly turned into waffle irons and coffee pots. Here you will read its fabulous story, from bullets to bandages, freezing skies, round engines, and the love that made a B-17 Flying Fortress legend.

Reviews
Ask anyone who has seen one, heard one, or flown one is the B-17 the best bomber ever built? they will likely give you more explanations than you care to hear about this magnificient aircraft. To most warbird enthusisats, there is just nothing like a B-17 Flying Fortress. As explained by Brent William Perkins in his book Memphis Belle: Biography of a B-17 Fortress, with the classic lines of the early military, the Fort typifies what a heavy aircraft ought to look like. A large sweeping tail and broad wings, along with the angled windshield and distinctive nosepiece make the B-17 stand out among other designs. Dario Leone, Aviation Geek Club, 5 April 2021

  • Great Read

This was a great addition to my collection of books on the Mighty 8th. Living close to Dayton Ohio and The Air Force Museum I was able to see her when they were refurbishing her and have seen her many times in her display. My dad and I were 8th Air Force buffs and I wish he could be here to see her. He passed in 2007. We had often talked of going to Memphis to see her but never got around to it. Would highly recommend this book to anyone with an interest in the Mighty 8th.
