    Anyone can use and install this

    I have had this Western Digital External Hard drive for about a month. The installation was as simple as plugging the unit into a plug and then connecting it via USB to my existing computer tower. The new drive was recognized immediately and within minutes I was tranferring data. Very easy to use, very simple. This is my first time buying an external hard drive. I did some research on the internet to determine what brand to buy and what size drive I needed. Based on my experience I would recommend this product.

    Excellent drive - but only trial software.

    i think this may be the best Western digital product I have ever owned. It was immediately recognized by XP Home and worked great right out of the box. The drive runs quietly and does not get warm at all. However, Seagate and Maxtor offer their drives with free backup software. This unit has a 30 day trial of Memeo Auto Backup. It is an excellent program but costs $30 to buy the full version. So far, that's the only gripe at all with this product.

    Great Product, Very easy to use!

    Being not very computer saavy I thought that I would have difficulty transferring all of my pictures and files. After the easy step by step installation, I just copied and pasted all of my files, it was a piece of cake! Definitely recommended!I thought about buying the larger GB one but 320 is plenty big for my personal computer.Very Pleased!

    WD My Book Essential hard drive is essentially crap!

    Mine, which I bought new, failed within two weeks -- my computer decided it didn't recognize the device, and when I ran WD's own diagnostic it said there were "too many bad sectors." On doing some online research, I find this is a very common problem with WD drives! The USB is just not designed to take a lot of traffic. WD was good about sending me a replacement drive under warranty, but now I'm a bit unsure whether I want to trust the device anymore.... My advice is to read reviews from places like CNET and PC World, then pay a bit more and get something that will work well -- and preferably not with a USB connection. None of this is any reflection on the eBay vendor, who was very upfront and helpful through the whole process.

    Western Digital My Book External Hard Drive works great

    I bought this hard drive about a month ago at a very inexpensive price and was not dissapointed. I bought it as wedding gift and it works great! I didn't know they made hard drives with only 320 Gigs but considering it will be for an older computer with less space and my sister only downloads music I thought it would have plenty of space and therefore be perfect for her. It works very well and there were no kinds of bugs or anything on it. It works pretty much the same as any hard drive Ive ever had so I like it very much. I really like the design and the shape of the hard drive and might buy one for myself. I recommend it if you need a little more space but don't need a lot of room.
