Excellent movie for young kids!
Barbie is definitely geared towards preschoolers and young girls. However, really, these movies are great family films. My husband even finds himself watching them on occasion and was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the Barbie movies! This one, in particular, is another excellent addition to the Barbie filmography. If you're familiar with the Tchaikovsky music, you will be happy to find that music you might know and love is used perfectly here as a movie score. Although the movie isn't the ballet (it's a more fleshed out story of the ballet), the story remains faithful to the ballet and has some wonderful (albeit too short) scenes taken from the highlights of the ballet. Even the well-known Pas de Deux is here-- but you have to wait until the very end to see ... Barbie is definitely geared towards preschoolers and young girls. Barbie's Swan Lake is truly a delight!

Barbie of Swan Lake-a story for all children
Barbie of Swan Lake is perfect for both boys and girls. I am the mother of two boys. I understand I am raising men and future husbands. I am very pleased with the message of chivalry and respect this movie gives. Barbie is lost in the forest and is rescued eventually by a prince. The men are men and the ladies are ladies. The message is excellent for little ones. My boys are 4 and 2 and still ask for this movie. We also watch Barbie as Rapunzel and Barbie and the Nutcracker. These two movies may have Barbie in the title but they are great lessons for all children. The latest Barbie movies are a bit too much "girlie" for my boys but these three classics follow suit with what I am trying to teach my boys.
