About this product

Product Information

Colosseum: Road to Freedom is an arena combat game set during the height of the ancient Roman empire, when grim warriors would fight to the death for the amusement of thousands of fickle spectators. Players take the role of Narcissus, a self-assured gladiator who appears far less self-absorbed than his mythological antecedent, and who has made it his life's quest to avenge the destruction of the small village where he lived as a child. The story begins as Narcissus trains in the ways of the warrior, learning new skills as he collects better weapons and more protective armor pieces. By the time he encounters Empereor Commodus, the master of the coliseum, Narcissus is ready to prove his mettle on the battlefield. Match types include duels, team battles, beast fights, and last-man-standing bouts. Two-player combat is supported in most modes of play.

    Great gladiator RPG.

I never had nor played Colosseum Road To Freedom before. It is from the creators of my favorite series, Dynasty Warriors. Actually I wasn't even aware of this game before so it was under the radar to me.

  • Two severed thumbs up!

This game, (though drastically different from it's original Japanese version) is really great. Everything from customizing your character's background and beliefs, to selecting your fighting style, and which weapons best fit that style. The story is very generic, but you won't really notice, as you'll be to immersed in the brutally realistic combat. You can battle other gladiators, on their way up the ladder, just like you, or you can fight famous ones, who have reached the pinnacle. Tigers, bulls, historical battles, and even the EMPEROR HIMSELF! Spartacus, and Maximus have nothing on you! We who are abut to die, salute you!

  • Simple is a Good Thing

This game is amazingly addictive. I bought the game when it came out and then sold it because it was so simple, but I realized years later that simple isn't necessarily a bad thing. Instead of wasting time with all sorts of fluff like walking through labyrinths, finding hidden treasures, or solving puzzles, this game has just one facet: the fighting. You fight as many as five other gladiators at a time, in a variety of contests for a variety of prizes. There's just enough storyline and character buildup to keep things interesting, but really this game is for the purist who just wants to win battles.

  • Road to Freedom - Almost Anyway

I bought this game thinking that it would be similar to Dynasty Warriors, just a bit darker, since it is from the same company, Koei. However, I was rather disappointed from the get-go. Although freedom is in the title, you are allowed VERY little. You basically go from fight to fight, walking the same battle grounds over and over. Even the battles are repetitive. For instance, there are only a few types of battles. A survive for a time limit, defeat a certain number of enemies, etc. You basically fight the same battles from the beginning to the end. Upon victory, you earn enough money to buy your freedom. From time to time, you will face a "famous" fighter in the Collosseum. These are basically like all the other fighters, just 100 times stronger. The game is rated mature, but the only ...

  • WOW!!!!!!!

If you like olden day fighting then this game kicks tail. Its just you with a sword trying to win your freedom from a slave owner. See who said white people weren't slaves...lol..okay anyway you start off as a poor guy that just got bought and you have to show your owner your skills by beating or killing (your friends at first) in the ring. As you prove yourself you fame multiplies and you fight more popular gladiators. The crowd rates your fight which is a great thing to add to the game. The moves are awesome and won't make it hard for you to keep playing. The story line is among the best and makes it so you will stay up past your bedtime trying to get a little farther. All in all buy this game it kicks butt. And oh yeah don't forget to rate my review..thanks man.
