About this product

Product Information

Bobby and Jonathan have been inseparable since they were teenagers in suburban Ohio. Bobby has suffered many losses for someone so young, and is starved for love and affection. Awkward teen Jonathan has a nice family, and a particularly wonderful mother (Sissy Spacek). The boys not only become as close as brothers, but they also experiment sexually. The two lose touch, but find each other again in their mid-20s in the early 1980s, when Bobby (Colin Farrell) moves to New York and joins Jonathan (Dallas Roberts) at the apartment he shares with Clare (Robin Wright Penn), an aging hippie. Bobby and Clare become lovers, however, Clare had planned to have a child with Jonathan, who is now openly gay and who is still interested in Bobby, and to whom Clare used to be attracted. The trio becomes its own unique entity, questioning the traditional definitions of family and love, and dealing with the complications of their love triangle. Based on the novel of the same name by Michael Cunningham, who also wrote the screenplay and who was the recipient of the Pulitzer prize, this film marks the debut of director Michael Mayer. Erik Smith plays Bobby as a teenager, and Harris Allen plays the teenage Jonathan.

I ordered Monty Python's Spamalot Original Broadway Cast Recording CD from tibbsfunstuff. I'm giving the CD as a gift. The seller provided clear photos of the CD which was helpful because I could see that the CD was in new condition. They also gave an accurate description of the item. The CD arrived quickly and was packaged nicely. I'm very happy with this purchase and would order from this seller again. Thank you!

    A story of true commitment

The story of Jonathan and Bobby is very sweet and tender. Bobby is very kind and deeply a good person looking for a real connection with a family. Sissy Spacek as Jonathan's mother brings the book character to life. Now as for Claire. I like Robin Wright Penn but hate Claire. She is a narcissistic predator and preys on Bobby and doesn't even understand his confusion and tears during their first sexual encounter. As the story unfolds I learn to hate claire even more because she knew what the situation was, was older than the guys and used them for her own narcissistic sociopathic reasons. Bobby and Jonathan do find a home at the end of the world but had to navigate the Claire-minefield to find it.

  • A very fine movie based on Michael Cunningham's novel

This is a fine movie based on Michael Cunningham's novel. It changes the focus somewhat by leaving out an important character, but the acting is superb. I love both the movie and the book and have given both as gifts.

  • Home at the End of the World

I too thoroughly enjoyed Very poignant, about an extended family who really discovers what truly caring for someone really means/ Hadn't seen much of Colin Ferrell, but understood why he is so popular. He plays an excellent role which I can only imagine was a challenge. The other two characters were excellent in their supporting roles. Even though she didn't have a lengthy role, I thought Sissy Spacek played the mom quite well. Wish my mom had the strength that Sissy had. Be ready for a teary end, but it couldn't have finished any other way. I highly recommend.

  • Another Hollywood-ized miss...

I guess what I had the most problem with is this turned out to be another Hollywood glazed over attempt to minimize what should have been a bonafide male to male relationship by throwing in some hokey get a female involved sub plot. Why does Hollywood have to bring a trumped up gay-gets-female-pregnant story (Clare) into a full body gay relationship, I mean really, gay relationship stories can and do stand up on their own, and do gay males REALLY deep down want to get a female pregnant?? NO! So stop throwing that crap into the mix just to appease the female and general population. If they really want to further the understanding of gay relationships, then leave it gay...and keep the chick at home. Oh,and Collin Farrell does NOT make a convincing gay, good, because he's just too ...

  • A Home at the End of the World

Two childhood friends face their past relationships, including their own, alongside a new friend in the 1980's in New York City. Their friendship becomes a love triangle as they struggle with a father's death and an unexpected pregnancy. Together, the shall face each other as they realize that everything they have may not be what they expected. The movie is very faithful to the book, the screenplay is from Cunningham himself. The acting is excellent, and the soundtrack featuring Laura Nyro is beautiful, and if some of the book's interest is lost in translation, it still makes a pretty good movie. I recommend this movie to anyone who is willing to take this unforgettable journey along with them. Watch it, and read the novel too.
