About this product

Product Information

Get set for the epic story of Luke fon Fabre in “Tales of the Abyss,” a magical role-playing adventure for PlayStation 2. A quest chock full of drama, discovery, and darkness, it's up to you to guide this hero to victory. Learn about Luke's affiliation with the Order of Lorelei while discovering magical items and increasing his fighting tactics and sorcery skills. Featuring the friendly faces of characters like Mieu and Jade, “Tales of the Abyss” contains more than 80 unlockable items and 20 different capacity cores. When the game begins, Luke is suffering from a case of amnesia. He quickly runs into an interesting character by the name of Tear Grants, who is on a journey with the goal of killing her brother. Following this meeting, Tear and Luke run into a wide gamut of characters all across the world. Many of these “Tales of the Abyss” characters have some former ties to both Luke and Tear. Van Grants, the brother of Tear and Luke's mentor, is the primary antagonist, while Asch the Bloody plays the role of an anti-hero.“Tales of the Abyss” is the eighth game in the lengthy Tales series for the PS2. These PS2 games are known for their deep RPG mechanics and complex stories. As for this “Tales of the Abyss” game, it was popular enough to be adapted into a separate anime and manga several years after its debut. These games were developed by Namco Bandai Games for the PS2 and had a release date of 2006. One of the primary gameplay components of “Tales of the Abyss” for PlayStation 2 is the complex battle system. The gameplay is entirely in real time as opposed to a turn-based style. With this system, the player has the ability to perform a standard skill, attack, or defense maneuver. You can also call for an ally of yours to complete a move to assist you. If you wish to play online on the PlayStation 2 version of this “Tales of the Abyss” game, multiplayer co-op games are available. As you level up with your Luke character, you can choose from a wide variety of useful battle skills that boost everything from your health to your fighting skills. Each character also has a Mystic Artes skill they can use during battle for extra damage. After each battle, you will receive a score that rates you on how quickly you defeated the enemy. Following the conclusion of this Tales game, you can use the points awarded by your scores to purchase items for your next play-through. This specific Namco Tales game also comes with a lot of side content. A cooking system allows you to collect recipes and ingredients for use during the missions. The actions of Luke also create in-game changes to both the world and the characters around him. If a fight causes a food shortage in one town, the cost of purchasing this food will rise dramatically for Luke. This unique system makes for a very immersive Tales game. With the option to take the journey solo or with up to three friends, “Tales of the Abyss” is an adventure in the making for any gamer who enjoys RPG games.

    Absolute gem of a JRPG

I'm really, really enjoying Tales of the Abyss! The main character started out so arrogant and selfish but then (insert spoilers here) and now he's really changed and it just makes him feel really human and relatable how he's working hard to earn everybody's trust back. It's also very fast-paced and you never feel like your current mission is without purpose...I really like it! I just wish the skits were voice acted (they are in Japanese but I'd prefer English) because they're pretty enjoyable too and really help flesh out the relationships between the characters. Overall I'd recommend this game to any fan of JRPGs. It's a rollercoaster ride and a true classic Tales game!

  • Pretty dope!

Improves vastly over symphonia +Combat has been polished to a shine, new additions such as "free run" allow you to move around freely in the combat arena, these new additions are great and allow more options when approaching combat. + story is interesting and has preety good pacing with a pretty good cast to keep you company along the way. -lots of lag and slowdown on the overworld Tales of the abyss is a awesome game that i definitely recommend to arpg and jrpg lovers alike!

  • Great game but one big problem....

I really enjoyed playing this game. The story line is nice and the character are kind of goofy (which in this case is a plus). Anyway, do not believe that this is simply a button masher. There are complex combo to execute (and it is not simply pressing X and O: certain conditions have to be met before executing major attack). In combat there is an element of strategy involved. There is also a fair amount of puzzle solving(nothing too complicated though) You have 6 characters in your party and 4 may be used in combat. Anyway any one character may be controlled by the player and the others are controlled by the "computer" although the player may set them to perform certain actions. The player controlled character has a free run ability (can move in any direction during combat) which is ...

  • A magical story with characters you won't forget

The story is phenomenal, with twists games haven't really touched upon before. The characters are all compelling and well-written to a very human degree, and the nuances in the gameplay make for a really fun and unique RPG experience.
