Not the Latest, but the Greatest

Keep in mind that the Amazon Kindle 2nd Generation is no longer available new. It has been surpassed by several newer generations of Kindle Readers. But some people, like me, do not buy into newer technology, such as touch-screen readers, just for the sake of having the latest model. I love the Kindle 2nd Generation, and I purchased this refurbished Kindle 2nd Generation as a backup to my current Kindle 2nd Generation which was given to me by a friend. I have been having issues with my current Kindle 2nd Generation, and I just wanted to have a backup in case it conked out. The best things about the Amazon Kindle 2nd Generation: (1.) The Kindle 2nd Generation has a physical keyboard right on the face of the reader. (2.) It is very easy to set up Collections on the Kindle 2nd ...

    Obsolete and useless!

These kindles can no longer connect to wifi or whisper net. I only found out after I bought and replaced the battery. when I couldn’t connect it to deregister it, I went on line to find that 2 years ago 2g and 3g were discontinued making these early kindles basically obsolete. It will not connect even with a mini usb to a computer as an external drive.

  • Absolutely in love with our Kindle and will purchase Kindles in future.

I bought the Amazon Kindle with Keyboard for my daughter for Christmas. I myself have never had my hands on one let alone used one. My daughter and I absolutely love it. The keyboard on it makes it easy to type. It was also extremely easy to setup. The best feature of this Kindle is it is 3G compatible. We do not have WiFi at our house so the 3G allows us to search for books, etc and purchase items. Better yet the 3G is free. The battery life tends to drain quickly but by turning 3G off you will solve that problem. Overall this device is perfect for our family and any reservations I had about purchasing this item were eased the second I realized how simple it was to set up and operate.

  • screen crashed soon after purchase, reviews confirm as common problem

so we purchased this used kindle to compare it to our nook. one week later the screen displayed only horizontal lines. what? turns out almost all kindle 2's will experience screen problems. when it came out it was well over $300 and now it is a third of its original price. when we received our used unit it worked fine so we are not blaming the seller. all reports say the kindle2 was working fine and then had screen problems occur. amazon will replace units that are under their one year warranty so if you still want to take a chance, buy a new one directly from them. be aware that many, many kindle2 owners experience screen problems after their warranty has expired. an amazon replacement will then cost roughly the same as purchasing a new one. we have no axe to grind and had done our ...

  • Great beginning e-reader

We own a Nook. We need another e-reader because both my wife and I are using it. I bought the Kindle because of the "read-to-me" feature, which I find is very good. I expected to hear Stephen Hawking, but what you get, although not James Earl Jones, are either a very pleasant male or female voice with a touch of machine. It even reads foreign words and names very well. I prefer the Kindle to the Nook. The battery lasts longer and it takes less time to charge. I prefer the external keyboard, the dictionary works better (for me at least). Operating the Nook may be more intuitive, but a few minutes of wandering around on the Kindle produces good results. Though the description says it will access the net, don't count on it. The beta software is all but nonfunctional.
