Tripp-Lite Spike cube outlet surge protector.
I believe this is going to be a life saver for circuit boards in our new remote garage door openers. We have already had one electric on and off surge and they were protected. The joule rating is 700. I have two. One for each door. So a very sensitive product for surges. They plug into the existing duplex, Very handy. I am think of getting another one that can handle 30 and 50 amps for our fifth wheel camper when it is plugged into a shoreline. I found ungrounded outlets in my house
I ordered this to protect a "secondary" computer in my house, but when it came I found a more important use for it. When I plugged it into some outlets in the house, both the green "Protected" and the red "Grounded" lights came on. But on other outlets, the "Grounded" light stayed off. On one outlet, the red "Grounded" light came on but just weakly. Then I read a bit on testing whether outlets were really grounded, and realized I had a gadget that I could use to confirm those results, one of those Digital Multimeters that Harbor Freight sells and sometimes gives away. Testing an outlet was cumbersome and took a few minutes, but I confirmed the results the Tripp-Lite gave me: some of my outlets were well grounded, some not at all, and one was weakly grounded. Great little device - a little large...
Tripp Lite has a good reputation in the industry and these surge suppressors have a 600 joule rating that is higher than most others. The only thing I have to say in the negative is that two of these can't sit side-by-side or one above the other in a 4-gang outlet layout. Other than that, great!
