Has Limitations They Forgot To Mention
Our project is a 1980 Camaro + 2021 E-Rod LS3. I like Dakota Digital. I looked at the architecture of the VHX instrument system (as an electrical engineer) and was impressed. The single CAT5 cable from the gauge controller box to the display is an admirably clean way to do it. The documentation is really good, and their tech support is responsive. Plus, the BIM-01-2 has great reviews! Here's what I don't like about the BIM-01-2. It's designed to connect to your OBD-II port, which is nice I guess for being easy to do, but bad if you ever need to use it (which you will - either a little or a lot). So I looked into hard-wiring the BIM-01-2 to the CAN bus (GM calls it GMLAN; same thing). Per Dakota Digital tech support, the BIM-01-2 CANNOT stay connected to the bus when something else is ... I'd be happier if I hadn't bought this product already, with too much time passed to return it. We're going with conventional sensors, which the VHX gauges include. Only two additional sensors are needed, and both mount easily near the rear of the engine, so it's not a big deal.

Wish this came with the dash cluster. I've had my digital dash and it was always reading incorrectly. This device was the fix for some of my issues
